([Word]) = Any word/phrase

Introduction

Heyyo to the Mars Explorers from the 377th Geek, The Emperor of TGE Inc. (Yada yada yada and a bunch of other useless crap that always fails. So as you should know about me that besides being a hard core techie, an avid Apple fanboy, and a sophisticated geek, I am also a huge lover of sci-fi. And not some people go ing in space and stuff or some flying saucer cartoon. Well so I was trying to watch the new episode of Stargate Universe on YouTube yesterday (I missed the air on TV) when I came across some interesting footage. It was of Stargate Atlantis, and I got all giddy. (LOL) Well so I saw it and thought, hmm... this would be an awesome Mars World. And I could use my plans of that floating city I made in 5th grade. (I got the inspiration from being on a cruise ship and watching the movie Howl's Moving Castle). So I combined science fiction with Geek, and got the following results:

  • 20 different designs
  • A huge pile of crumpled up paper with rejected designs
  • Spontaneous joy


Details of City
 
First of all I would like to mention that actual wormholes cannot be accomplished until the proper scripting is out for the Whirld System. So that basically blows away the whole idea of placing "Stargates" in certain parts of the map. But don't worry I do have some surprises planned. A floating metropolis with complete detail. Now the physical details: the world is a circle with a radius of 2 kil ometers. The actual city itself will be inside a lake that is once again a circle, but with the radius of 1km. So basically think of this as a doughnut, the ring will be terrain and filled with other goodies. And the middle is basically the "lake" that houses the city. Now moving on... 


Layout of City

The city is based on a hub and spoke concept. The central hub is considered to be the main city, while the spokes jut out into the water. Theses spokes house mini-worlds or Points of Interest (PIs). There are 8 spokes or arms to the city. Each arm has something unique. And do not fret, the buildings are in progress, I just hid them so I wouldn't reveal any "secrets".

Name
 
This metrolpolis needs a name. Something to distinguish it from others. Something that is unique. Several suggestions have been related to earth and water. Aqualantis, Atlantis, Terra Atlantis. Even Uniopia. The name is still in the pipeline. But for now, the world has been dubbed Alpha X. 
 
 
Wormholes
 
Ever wanted to escape with the quarry from others and vanish at a moments notice? Or did you ever wish to travel between space and time? Or maybe just get the feel of what its like in a wormhole? Well now you can, with the introduction of Stella Port™! So there are at least 10 of these conveniently located all over the map. They are open wormholes that transport any thing to a different place by creating a sub space bridge between two locations. The matter is then transferred through the Stella Port™ and arrives at the other end. They are already activated and very fun to go through! And some Martians requested a much more realistic black hole like wormhole, so here you are. (That is if the required scripting is supported.)


Advertising

So you know that every city has advertisement, right? So I had alot of empty wal space around the harbor and other areas, so I though, why not let the dudes on Mars Explorer advertise? So if interested, you can "buy" billboards for free. The ads will be text only, and images can be added if attached. I have 100 6x6m spaces, so first come first served! And please try to make the ads Mars related (e.g. Try [insert player name]'s new lava world; [Player Name] is the MVP of the [Insert Event]) And you can also advertise websites, but they must be approved by me and a moderator first. (And I think we all know what kind of sites will be rejected.) Message me the ad(s), and it is recommended that the ad be no more than 5 lines, just so it can be visible from afar. Also image resolution is recommended at 600 by 600 pixels. So have fun advertising! And see the updated order forms here Sadly all ad openings have already been bought.


Spaceport

Now its official! PointyBagels has offered to merge his Interstellar Spaceport with Atlantis. Not only will this make the world more interesting but this will set a true example of collaborating and working together. The spaceport will feature hangars, a runway system and several launch pads. Located in the Terra Park, the spaceport will be near the edge of the world and past the mountains. The terminal will be isolated in a cliff in a valley and can only be accessed via a clever cable car ferry system, which spans the lake and connects the spaceport to the city. 


Harbor

Well you know how this city is on water? Well why not have a harbor!! Wow whoever though of that must be a genius. So okay I was thinking, there have some competitions going around in the development sector of Mars Explorer. So why not let others participate! (Yeah developers do this to get the stuff they need without paying for it.) So I have 20 ships I am making and the harbor need 25 ships. So the top winners of the contest will each get a place of honor. One of the "5 star" docks. So far, the occupants are as follows: Elliebrother, Fai, Flyclub, & Spitfire.  
 

Conclusion

So I hope you guys will enjoy this. I know I have many projects but since summer is here, I will have an alpha version out by around August. And I will meet the deadline this time and try not to push it. But they say that worlds with such detail and time frame should be worth the wait! For now, this is just in much of a development stage and soon will be completed. Until then, check out Stargate Franchise, its awesome; and chillax and leave constructive, vulgar-less criticism. When I brought the skypark into unity, it turned white when it was green. I don't want this to happen to the ship. What can I do to fix that, and what makes the process easier?

It took a lot of texture work and adding mesh colliders to get it ready and ship shape, but here it is. :P

Here it is, over the expanse of Ultra woopland
Blam-Blam21 and I have been making a world. We are making it unnatural but very playable. There are wonders throughout Woopland, including elevators, movable meteorites, trees with colliders, MARS MARKET, a seesaw, and other random things; the list is endless. It is also very big, 12000, 12000. There is a road going around it. Here are some pictures of it:

I have been making a ship for it that will be floating in the sky. It will be very big with lots of rooms. There is a lot of empty rooms and i don't know what to put in them, could you give me some ideas? I also have space for more rooms so that I could make more. I have some ideas but i need more:
  • Conference room
  • Lab [I'm not sure what t put in it though]
  • Control room
  • Movie theater [no movie though]
  • Lounge
  • Engine room [I don't think I'm skilled enough to make the engines though]
  • Navigation room

Furniture contest
There will be a furniture contest for this ship. The furniture will go in the ship if it's half decent, the contest part is just for fun. :P The stuff for the ship/contest should be futuristic stuff. It can be for any existing room or you could make it for a new room idea for it. It doesn't have to be furniture it could be a a computer thingor anything else... ETC... So here begins the contest.
Needed things:
  • Lab equipment -- Not really needed, but accepted
  • Anything else that could be on a spaceship!
Anything else that would fit for a spaceship.
New room ideas would be good, I'm running out of ideas.

<![CDATA[Discussion: Multiplayer on old versions]]> As most people know, the multiplayer on the older mars explorer versions is broken.
 
We can still access each other's servers using direct connect, but the "host cam bug" (getting the server host's camera when in first person view) still ruins gameplay.
 
I think we have to face the fact that mars will never return to the way it was, with the heavy customization, vehicles, worlds, "syn3h," and other new developments. We can't go backwards from here.
 
However, old versions like 1.3, 1.7, and 1.9 brought experiences that may never be seen again on the internet. Is it too much to ask for Aubrey to try to fix the multiplayer, or at least get rid of the host cam bug so that a few cantankerous old players can revisit the past?

<![CDATA[custom parts - updated new stuff]]> Ok here are a few more things I've made. First their is a fairly simple truss bridge with a tubular frame, second an arch bridge with a suspended roadway, third an arch bridge (yellow and black) that will be good to put in-between to cliff faces, and lastly a simple ship, the Dauntless, I thought it would be cool to have a big ship rolling at it's anchors out in the water that people could explore. It has a slide to get into the inside and then another out the back to get out. It also has a little cabin thing. It's not finished and I'm going to ask Olm if I can use his sub to be placed along the side. If you would like any of these just request the link and I will give it to you. I will also build orders for people if they want.

ok I now have finished the cable stay bridge and here is a link. I will now try to finish the suspension bridge so people can use it, then I will build a medieval drawbridge. The to picture is the finished cable stay bridge which now has thick cables. If you would any bridges for your world or any other random parts apply here.

Here is a bridge I built. If anyone wants it fro their world let me know. I can also make different types of bridges for people if they want. I don't know if unity already has bridges in it but if you want this one for your world you can have it.

As of now, many of the past versions are not useable multiplayer. Some are not useable single player at times. We often remember the "Good old days" and feel an urge to revisit them occasionally. Right now, we cannot. I consider this somewhat urgent, considering many people are tiring of the new versions cons. Sometimes it's better to just relive the old pros. I understand this may be counter productive but it would help relieve some stress i believe. I also understand you are hard at work trying to suit the new versions to our likes, but i speak for a few of us when i say we just want some familiar turf right now. We can wait for "Newer and better" things while we are comfortable in functional past versions. Please consider. Thank you.
 
(To those of you who did not understand when i first said it, the MULTIPLAYER does not always work. What is this game without multiplayer? Fun but not nearly as much as it would be.)

One of the things that makes Mars explorer so successful is its extreme versatility, there are A LOT of ways to play.

 

In this topic, I have compiled a list of every game mode I have heard of, as well as a few that I invented myself, if you want anything to be added to the list, just post or PM me.

Hopefully this will help you make the most of Mars Explorer.

All of them CAN BE PLAYED in 2.11 and require no updates to work.

NOTE: Not all worlds mentioned are implemented, but they should be somewhat well known.

 

FREE FOR ALL:

 

Quarry:  Classic Mars Explorer gameplay, everyone shoots at the quarry, who is green.  When someone hits the quarry with either a laser or their vehicle, they become the quarry.  Points are scored by shooting others while you are the quarry.

Ideal Settings:  There are really no bad settings for this style, but generally they are somewhat near the default.

Best Played At: Freestyle, Unity Island, Fort Boxy

 

NQS: Shoot at players who are not the quarry.

Ideal Settings: Mostly same as Quarry.  It can also be fun with laser hits respawn.

Best Played At: Flyclub’s Platforms, Skirmish Central

 

Dogfight:  Quarry with jets.

Ideal Settings:  Jets only

Best Played At:  Unity Island

 

Tank Tag:  Tanks chase each other around and hit each other.

Ideal Settings:  No lasers, tanks only

Best Played At:  Freestyle, Unity Island

 

Hide and Seek:  The quarry is hidden, and the goal is to find them and then go hide somewhere...

Ideal Settings:  No Minimap, Camoflague badges on, For really hard games turn fog all the way up.

Best Played At:  Skirmish Central, Bagel’s Tower(Community World), Neon’s Space Cube, Calyx’s Megacity, Forge's Citadel, Iron Forge's Embassy, Kirby's Labyrinth

 

ORGANIZED/SOMEWHAT ORGANIZED/TEAM:

 

Cano King:  Tanks try to push each other off an elevated area.

Ideal Settings:  Tanks only, no lasers.

Best Played At:  Freestyle, Kirby’s Labyrinth, Bagel’s Tower(Community World)

 

Land Race:  Race around a well marked course.  Can be either point to point or with laps.

Ideal Settings:  Buggies are best for this, but it can also be played with other vehicles.  Some people also say no wings.

Best Played At:  Lava Racer, Foxholes, FlyClub’s Xorb Race, Dvo’s Stunt Parkway, Kirby’s Tower, MRC Race World,

 

Air Race:  Race through rings and see who can go through them the fastest.  Can be in order or not.  Also can be to see who can get to a certain height first in a buggy.

Ideal Settings:  Only works with Jets and Buggies

Best Played At:  First style: nowhere yet, Second style: Neon/Dvo Ultimatum, Neon’s Infinity.

 

Long Jump:  Go off a jump and see who can go the farthest.

Ideal Settings:  Buggies or hovers, best with speed all the way up.

Best Played At:  Bagel’s Skate Park

 

HORSE:  One player does a stunt of some sort, then others follow and try to do the same stunt, if they mess up, they get an H, and so on.

Ideal Settings:  Best with buggies

Best Played At:  Dvo’s Stunt Parkway, Bagel’s Skate Park, GTR’s Stunt World?

 

Tank Soccer:  Tanks try to hit an immobile buggy into one of two goals.

Ideal Settings:  2 Teams of tanks, all the same color, one buggy that can be either a bot that can neither fire nor drive, or a dummy player, RORBS enabled, and the buggy has a XORB.

Best Played At:  Dvo’s Stunt Parkway, Tank Soccer World

 

Capture the Flag:  The most anticipated game mode now has a way to play without Aubrey having to do anything.  Two teams of 4 each take a side, flags can be, similar to Tank Soccer, immobile buggies with Xorbs.  The goal is to get the other Team’s flag to your side.

Ideal Settings:  This MUST have laser hits respawn, NO Exceptions.  4 players same color on a team.  2 dummy players that are buggies with xorbs for flags.  (One problem, what if someone shot the flag, I guess we could just make it against the rules to shoot a flag.) Some versions require there to be one player on each vehicle per team.

Best Played At:  There is, as of yet, no world for this, but I am currently working on one, and I might have a basic version out today or tomorrow.

 

Jailbreak:  Buggies try to escape an enclosed area, while tanks try to stop them by shooting them back to the respawn point.

Ideal Settings:  Buggies and tanks only, laser hits respawn.  Works best with around 6 tanks, 4 buggies.  Buggies cannot shoot.

Best Played At:  Fort Boxy, Dvo’s Stunt Parkway

 

MarsyBot:  Buggies grab a spot on the MarsyBot and jets try to shoot them off.

Ideal Settings:  Jets at max firepower, no lasers for buggies.

Best Played At:  Dvo’s Stunt Parkway

 

Jets vs. Tanks:  Jets try to hit tanks off a tower, similar to Cano King and MarsyBot.

Ideal Settings:  No lasers, Jets and Tanks only.

Best Played At:  Freestyle, Bagel’s Tower(Community World)

 

INDIVIDUAL:

 

Target Practice:  Shoot at bots that can’t shoot.

Ideal Settings:  Anything

Best Played At:  Anywhere

 

Exploration:  Explore the great many worlds available in Mars Explorer and discover secrets, glitches etc.

Ideal Settings:  Anything

Best Played at:  Anywhere

<![CDATA[Martian Open Dogfighters Tourney News - Player List Released]]> Match 3: Picard v. Aviator; Picard winning in 6-2 in overtime. Details below.
 
 
 
 
Within the twisting, turning pipes of Flyclub's XORB Raceway, Picard and Aviator fought a five-minute battle ending with a tie of 2-2. After a 2nd two-minute tiebreaker (The first ending due to network hiccup), Picard pulled ahead, 6-2. Aviator did score one point directly after time was called, keeping it from being counted. Picard will go on to battle the winner of the Mr_Mars v. KAWASAKI match.
 
AppleSky here, and I'd like to thank everyone for their cooperation thus far in the 1st ever Martian Open Dogfighters Tourney. Registration is closed, and below you can find the official tourney brackets, with player names inserted. If you have not already told us what times and days (with time zone) you can participate, we need you to do so quickly. <![CDATA[Discussion: Etiquette, On Site and In Game - A Discussion on Some Precepts of Polite Behavior]]> Fellow Mars Explorers,

We all have realized, I should hope, that certain things that are not polite routinely go on in our beloved game. These include (but are not limited to):

 

1) Mocking the New Comers: newb, idiot, you suck, etc. are all insults used against inexperienced players. They are the epitome of hypocrisy. Like it or not, all of us were new at the game at one point. Be helpful, not hurtful.

 

2) Cursing disguised with *s or spaces: Seriously, why curse, its just a game. A great game, but still a game. Go be mean somewhere else. 

 

3) Cloning, or Mars Explorer Identity Theft: Yes, we all hate this one. In an instance of cloning, another player, usually unregistered, would attempt to use the name of another player for their benefit or the other's detriment. This should be considered a Mars Explorer crime, as it has nearly started a war at least once. Thankfully, it is largely impossible due to updates in the game, though pseudo-cloning (maliciously taking a name similar to someone else's) has occurred before.

 

4) Shooting people who are not the quarry when you are not the quarry. (Why? It doesn't get you points, it makes the game less complex by slowing down players, and it is just mildly sinister (shoot someone because they might shoot you later?)) (Obviously, this one doesn't apply to games where the object is tag people other than the quarry).

5) Hitting on people (I haven't seen this for about a while, but why bother enticing someone who may be a continent away while playing a game? That's what dating services are for.)

 

6) Name Consistency: While not necessary, this last one is for the convenience of others. Please use only one spelling of your game name, as misspelling confuses other players.

 

7) Spamming: This is where someone fills the messaging console and/or forums with indecipherable and pointless random typing (or worse). It makes in-game messaging incredibly difficult, and causes general chaos on the forums.

 

8) Telling innocents to leave (People who know nothing about someone who joins sometimes tell the newcomers to leave for no obvious reason.)  

 
9)Blanket Labeling: This concerns the use of the word n00b. Not everyone who acts differently from other players is trying to be negative. They are just playing the game differently. In this case, a n00b is simply someone who sees things in a different light. Be polite when talking to them, not offensive. Fighting fire with fire does not work that well, and besides,  they are people too. Also, using n00b as a blanket insult useless, because calling anyone who does not go along with what you want a n00b is not going to solve anything. In fact, the one acting n00bishley in that situation is none other than the accuser.
 

Please reply as to your opinions on this and other rude things that have been polluting the messaging consoles and forum space of Mars Explorers throughout the world. I hope that we can come eventually up with a Gamer's Code for Mars Explorer/Sy3h.
