Mars Explorer, admin, Official

Greetings everyone!

As many of you are aware, I have long dreamed of rebuilding PlexPedia from the ground up. The current version is fairly respectable in it's own right, but I believe that a completely new system that incorporates everything I have learned from Safarri and the current PlexPedia could be one of the most powerful organizational tools yet created for the internet. Unfortunately, this would mean putting Syn3h development on an indefinite hold - so I won't be embarking on a PlexPedia rebuild in the near future.

In the mean time, Mars Explorer's community continues to grow - and we need to keep it organized and on track. I have therefore dedicated the last several days to tuning up the current version of PlexPedia. Please let me know how the new features work for you, and if you notice and bugs or security issues that they may have introduced. Enjoy:
  • Moderators new ability to remove individual thread comments! Their actions are archived in PlexPedia's log system.
  • Permanent logins, which are now available from the login page. This should be especially handy for those who check the site often, or use mobile devices with cramped keyboards.
  • Moderators new ability to adjust the category of each piece of content submitted to the site. This functionality is available in each content page's "edit bar", and is also integrated with the PlexPedia site log.
  • Many other tweaks and bugfixes, including:
    • Fixed new content hiding itself by default during the submission process.
    • Fixed tinymce content editor incompatibility with Internet Explorer 9, which had rendered it impossible to submit content to the site.
    • Fixed browse links occasionally redirecting users to browse pages from other PlexPedia sites (this was a flaw in the system which kept track of which page you were on before viewing some content, and then sent you back to the appropriate page when you clicked browse again).
    • Enhanced Update Profile Page
    • Fixed errors appearing when a message was sent to a user with an invalid email address.
    • Fixed broken guest session tracking system which was due to http cookies expiring too early. PlexPedia should now be much smarter about desplaying messages regarding actions you have recently performed.

In a couple weeks (after Syn3h's official release), MarsXPLR.com will be merged with Syn3h.com and I will use the opportunity to reorganize both site's content categories. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions and support - especially Kruncher, Achilles, FlyClub, TheDude, MacDane, and the rest of Mars Explorer's dedicated mod team.

All the best,

-Aubrey

Thanks for all your hard work, but may I suggest removing the PM feature that includes your e-mail address?

Nuh-uh.

You can always tell it to never send it to your email, and for those players who don't frequently get on the site (i.e., me), it's VERY handy when you still want to know what's happening in your inbox.

On a different note...

Thank you thank you THANK you, Aubrey.

And how might you tell it not to send it? I looked, but can't find anything.

I know that keeps PMs out of my email, but how would I prevent it from sending my email address to someone else?

Well, if you don't want them to know your name then you should make a fake email account with some obvious made-up name like naming yourself John Citizen, unless that is your real name then name yourself somethingn like ACC-Yoshi from Mars, or This Is A Pseudonym or something. Then you change your email to that account.

Unless you don't want it to do any sort of email thing at all, then you should request somewhere on the page that they do not email you replies and instead should just PM you or hack the site, or just ask Aubrey to do it for you (but if you're going for that option have him do the same for me).

Aubrey,

I can't thank you enough for everything you are thus far doing. It feel's great to be able to properly moderate this forum, and to be able to deal with everything! I'm rejuvenated as a moderator!

Once again, thank you Aubrey!

Very good job Aubrey! I'm impressed many of our ideas from so long ago are implemented!  Now that leaves a "Friends that are Online/Instant Messenger" as our next big Mars Explorer/Syn3h website step, right? ;)

Keep up the good work,

Just fixed a couple more things:

  1. "Autoexpanding" content images should again be displayed in their proper aspect ratio without any distortion
  2. You can now initiate a permanent authentication session from the "Quick Login" menu as well as from the login page
  3. Safarri.com was running extremely slow because of some issues with Google Base, I have disabled base integration and PlexPedia's server now has much less load
  4. The Whirld map server was down intermittently for the last couple days, but I should now have everything stabilized. Please let me know if you still experience worlds that fail to load
  5. Mars Explorer is now connected to a master list server which also hosts a couple other games. Don't be worried that the "Players Online" counter is much higher than the "Current Version" counter, this will be fixed automatically when we transition to Syn3h.

I was wondering about that! The "90 players online" seemed a bit scary. :)

Thanks, Aubrey!

Also, is Plex available in Mobile?

I would personally say that the 10 - 20 players online is a bit scarier ;)

Plexpedia doesn't seem to be available in mobile (at least from what I can see on my iPod). I personally don't like it when sites make mobile versions (except for Google) as it mostly limits the accessability of content and navigation around the site.

There were so few players today primarily because they had been frustrated by many of the worlds not loading.

PlexPedia automatically disables the wysiwyg content editor for mobile browsers, but I haven't found anything other than this necessary.

So, how does Flynn set the lolcats post to Removed yet it's still visible? Was it re-posted?

Also, how does a not-logged on kruncher hover mouse and view comments that have been ((poofed))?

You only can see the comments hidden when logged in as a mod unfortunately. I'll see if I can get Aubrey to add in a feature where you can take a look at the removed comments.
