Argh!

Hello blokes,
I'm here to list my problems with Whirld 5.
system Info:
Dell Inspiron n1410
Windows 7 home premium
Completely up-to-date software
4 GB of RAM
Intel HD graphics
451 GB hard drive
1:
I can't build webplayers or programs, and that drives me nuts! This means I can't make demos for anyone or export my own worlds if I got the Unity Pro trial.
2:
The Unity Scene camera glitches. I get holes in the terrain that don't exist, rifts along the edges of certain meshes, and other problems
3: Whenever I test the world, Unity lets me know that it's cleaning up leaked objects in the scene.

4: Whenever I save, import a new Asset, or package, the whirldsea randomly disappears. The floor is usually still there. I actually have to go back into the whirld controller and reactivate whirldsea every time I save or do something like that. Sometimes while I'm editing the terrain, the whirldfloor will randomly disappear and I have to go back and edit that too.

I really enjoy whirld, but i can't use it that well when it causes this many problems with my system.
thanks for your time,
ffroggy

Ffroggy,

I am sorry, but I really have no idea what is going on! I am not much of a Windows whiz, but I will try to do some research and I hope that it helps.

Same here.

1) I also can't build webplayers or thingies, and when I do, they don't work. (Yes I put in the loader scene)

2) The "scene camera glitching" happens more when you zoom out and less when you zoom in, correct? That is to reduce battery drain and CPU power needed. It isn't actually there.

3) I have no idea what that means, I get it a lot.

4) I sometimes get that. However, when I do, its when I change the altitude of the terrain, not when I modify the heightmap or textures. I don't get the whirldsea thing though. Although sometimes the whirldsea and floor move positions when I don't want them to. It gets annoying.

Oh, great one achilles, where art thou?

1. I'm not alone in the world!
2. Actually, it's the opposite! when I zoom in, rifts and stuff become more visible, and sometimes when I zoom in, terrain above a certain altitude will all of a sudden disappear

4. The whirldsea and floor move around because they're programmed to follow you around so that you can't fall off the planet, remember? This is a glitch because it follows the Unity camera too.

PS Here's a picture of the compiler errors:

To fix the "disappearing terrain", press the box in the middle of the 3D compass, it is easy to view everything that way. (except hidden sides)

The little rifts can probably be fixed with the smoothing tool. It looks like a mountain with a raindrop.

EDIT: Wow I have never gotten that much before.

Yoshi,
the "disappearing terrain" is not fixed with the box in the 3d compass. I've tried that, I've tried focusing on the object with f key, I've tried every trick I know. They sometimes work, but not usually. The terrain rifts are not fixed with the smoothing tool. They aren't actually rifts in the terrain itself, they're just rendering errors. If viewed from a different angle, they disappear.

I know that high terrain disappears when viewed from the Y direction, but for me, it is fixed by viewing from the box view. I'm out of ideas.

I think that if the disappearing terrain issue is what I think it is then that's normal and it is for you to be able to see terrain behind that terrain, if that makes sense. I hope it does...

I know what you're talking about, but this isn't normal. I'm not vieing the terrain from any angle that would cause Unity not to render it. What happens is that for some reason, editing the terrain causes the actual mesh of the terrain to appear to split. so it looks like there's a small rift in the terrain that I can see through. The funny thing is, that the rift disappears when the terrain is edited a certain way or if the camera angle is changed, or if the play button is pressed.

Ffroggy, some screenshots would be great in diagnosing just what might be wrong with the terrain. :)

Cheers,

Oh! I have seen those before. I have no idea what it is, but I do something and their gone (I forgot what, some editing of the terrain heightmap seems to work)

The camera issue could probably be fixed with the clipping planes in the inspector. Change the near plane to 0.01; I believe 0.3 is the default.
