A new world by THEpancakes, for Moonwalker
Submitted By THEpancakes on 11/12/17
Mars Explorer, THEpancakes, Community, Creations, Amazing New Worlds

Hey Martians!
Pancakes is back, with a brand new world for you all!

So here's how it went: This morning, I saw Moonwalker's new post about her lung cancer, so I thought it would a kind gesture to make a world in dedication to her seeing as it was her idea in the first place to have world dedications, to encourage her in her battle against that disease!
So I got onto Unity, and I quickly knocked up (in a couple of hours :P) this amazing world! It's called The Moon (yes I know, very original :P)
Then I asked Abister nicely to export it for me, and he did so, very kindly! :D

Here are some pics for ya all!

Dedicated to Moonwalker. Get well soon, Moonwalker!

Exported by Abister - Skybox added by Abister

Please note I did not make the models of the Lunar Rover and Lunar Lander, I downloaded them from the 3D Warehouse.

I said you didn't have to do anything at all! Well, it looks great.

If I am soon able, I will go look at it bigger. How long did you work on this?

It looks great and thank you both. :-D

THEpancakes,

First of all, I must say "thank you" on behalf of Moonwalker, even though she has already expressed her gratitude. This is a very kind and caring action that you have done this morning. I really like how this world is meant to encourage Moonwalker in her fight against cancer, and I also admire how you dedicated this world to her. This shows true leadership on Mars, especially since you are the first person to dedicate a world to anyone (as far as I know). I like this idea so much, I will probably send Abister (or anyone else who can export) one of my worlds. This one will probably be dedicated to Moonwalker also.

Thank you Pancakes, you are a true leader here on Mars.

The moon's gravity. Does it stay the same or copy life?
1 week - 32,767v
Posted 2011/12/21 - 19:48 GMT
...?
Do you mean:
  1. Is the gravity on the moon the same as on Earth?
  2. Is the gravity on this world the same as on Earth?
  3. Is the gravity on this world the same as the moon on default?
  4. Is the proportion of the gravity on this world to the gravity on other Martian worlds proportional to the gravity on the moon to that of Earth?
  5. ...or something completely different?

There is no gravity on the Moon nor in space at all. Thats why you float while being in space.

Does that help?
1 week - 32,767v
Posted 2011/12/21 - 20:29 GMT
Ehmm that's not completely accurate.

Correct, there is no gravity in space, but there is gravity on the Moon. Only seven times weaker than on Earth, since the Moon is seven times smaller than Earth.
4 days - 13,245v

Oh I didnt know that. I was always told there was no gravity on the Moon.

Gravity is a force exercised between all objects with a certain mass.
Even you have a gravitational attraction, only it's very weak.

The earth is very heavy, therefore it has a strong gravitational attraction, which keeps us on the ground.
The Moon is seven times smaller than Earth, therefore it's mass is seven times less than the Earth, and so it's gravitational attraction is seven times weaker.

So he probably doesn't know how to play this world...

@Kipper:
No it wouldn't. It would be REALLY COOL if the gravity on this world wasn't Earth Normal (9.81) and instead be 1.6.

Actually, there is gravity in space. :P I could go in-depth as to why, but here is a handy video.
1 week - 32,767v
Posted 2011/12/21 - 22:14 GMT
I know, there is something called micro-gravity.
The gravitational attraction from the smallest or most far-away objects there are is still technically a gravitational attraction, but it's so weak it's not in the least noticeable.
Also, it doesn't go in one particular direction, like what we know as gravity does.

So the gravity on the moon 1.6 m/s^2? More? Less?
1 week - 32,767v
Posted 2012/01/01 - 19:52 GMT
Yes, it's 1.6 m/s, while Earth is 9.81 or 9.8, depending on where you are.

Yes, the centrifugal force of the Earth rotating makes the effect of gravity at the equator less than at either of the poles.
4 days - 13,245v
Posted 2012/01/02 - 1:35 GMT
When your on the equator, it is said you are actually moving at 1,000 mph.... I forget why. My cousin was reading a book on it and said that out loud at random so, yeah.

I'll have to look it up more to give more information on it.

Uhhh.. yup
1 week - 32,767v
Posted 2012/01/02 - 17:06 GMT
Don't forget all the other variables.

How fast Earth is rotating + How fast it is revolving around the Sun + How fast it is moving around the Galactic Center + How fast the Milky Way is moving through space. The actual number would vary, but it is probably a lot more than 1000 mph.
1 week - 32,767v
Posted 2012/01/02 - 18:43 GMT
Then we have to take into account the movement of the universe: does it exist or not?? o_0 ;)
5 days - 22,986v
Posted 2012/01/02 - 18:51 GMT
Isn't there a theory that states the things further away from the center of the universe are moving faster than the speed of light?

1 week - 32,767v
Posted 2012/01/02 - 19:28 GMT
That is a poor misinterpretation of Hubble's law. Hubble's law states that the farther away something is from us, the faster it is moving away, and the greater redshift.

The only thing that really can travel faster than the speed of light is the space in which it exists. (Neutrinos are possibly an exception)
3 days - 10,628v
Posted 2012/01/02 - 19:43 GMT
I do believe that the first thing that must be asked to determing how fast anything is going is "compared to what?"

Until you know that, velocity is irrelevant.
1 week - 32,767v
Posted 2012/01/02 - 19:51 GMT
But, see, that could be wrong, that nothing can go faster than light. The PROOF for that could be refuted by some other unknown information.
It's entirely possible that something can!
But until then, we're stuck bending spacetime.
