'ello poppets!
so, as I'm sure you've all noticed, newbs and vets don't exactly seem to get along. Stryker and I have had a semi-recent discussion on this, (he doesn't officially endorse this as I haven't asked him yet) and I in my incredible cranial capacity have decided to create the (insert cheesy 60's music here) the conflict resolution hotline! This is a setup w/ me and/or whoever else is interested. What it does is resolve conflicts between two or more people. If one person has an issue with another one, they send a private message to me and/or whoever else would like to help. Then I/other person will send a message to the botherer. The introduction of a third person is more likely to attain utmost conflict resolution! So what do you guys think?

"A good compromise leaves everyone mad." ~Calvin from Calvin and Hobbes

If you decide to side with one side you'll make more enemies because they'll accuse you of siding with the other person and being unfair, and then you bring more and more people in until the whole of Mars knows the problem and is split into two or three factions.

EDIT: I don't think it should be stickied. It doesn't resolve the disputes ON THE POSTS, and so should not be stickied. If you find a good idea don't say "sticky it" because chances are it is only to inform others of this brilliant idea and not the actual POST for the use of the idea.

EDIT 2: [03:09] Unless we all agree on a person that will be unbiased, and biased only on the best resolution? Or the two decide on a person who they know will be unbiased.

This is what Moonwalker said when she was trying to stop the fights...

No, this will simply not work. Who is to say one is above us for settling disputes? Is it in human nature to always send your disputes to someone else to settle the problem? There aren't going to be officials for this task, so where is the trust? Introducing a third person may make someone look desperate. There's a bunch of factors as to why this is a bad idea. In all honestly, people want to defefnd their point of view. They're not going to want to send their problem to someone else to end the fight.

Find a broader and more relavent meaning from this quote:

"From time to time, we have been tempted to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by self-rule, that government by an elite group is superior to government for, by, and of the people. But if no one among us is capable of governing himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else? All of us together, in and out of government, must bear the burden. The solutions we seek must be equitable, with no one group singled out to pay a higher price." -President Ronald Reagan First Inaugural Address

It bugs me that people like you persistently post these "we need to stop fighting" posts with your solution to the problem, but I've been noticing much less fights. Why don't you all move on and just do your part on the forums?

My view: I believe there would be much more peace on Mars and the forum if everybody could take things not personally.

Agreed, but I think that there is less fighting because of the posts and we want there to stop being these posts so there is no fighting, if that makes sense.

@Moonwalker
You and Stryker were trying to create a group of people that would be some sort of mediator between the mods and regular players.

Also, has anyone heard this joke?

Bob: Oh my God Joe, I heard you died!
Joe: Where'd you hear that from? As you can see I'm clearly alive.
Bob: Impossible! The man I heard that from is MUCH more reliable than you!

This is an extreme example of what could happen with this.
