 Hey everyone!

I've seen some martians that have taken some newbies and n00bs and "pushed them under their wing." Also known as mentoring.
These people really turned out quite good. Etah is now a positive RFV, TJjoe plays respectfully, tdawg does as well, I am living proof, timber is an excellent dogfighter, ibcf (that's right) is a respected player, and much more.

So far, I recorded these people that mentored someone, IMO:
  • Kruncher
  • Tigerstorm
  • Me
  • ibcf
  • GTR34
  • nattyfrank

Over 6 martians were taught purposely by someone and they all have turned out quite well. So now I will get to the point of this post: us, forumers, should perhaps mentor some n00bs/newbs. Find one and take it under your wing. Don't worry if you run out, there are 40,000 more that you can choose from… It is quite fun and pretty easy. I mean, don't we want more non-n00bs?

By the way, I tried my best not to sound self-centored so please don't post any comments about that. I will also take this post down if someone gives me a resonable reason to.

I came here to say that while my forte is also Carbon Combat, this idea has been concieved in the past as well.

The Mars Recruiting Group (MRG) was created by Achilles for the exact purpose of recruiting unregistered players, getting them to register, and mentoring them to become better players.

I'd also like to thank all those people (kruncher, AppleSky, Achilles, Tigerstorm, etc) who gave me tips WAY back when I played Mars! thanks!

When I joined, Flyclub warmly welcomed me and became my, I'm pretty sure, first friend on Mars.

Many of us privately invite and help Martians, so the list will always be sketchy. Maybe we should recollect our stories here instead of listing those who you believe mentored someone.

How about a club? We could call it MOM, or Mentors on Mars :D
jk for those of you who have no sense of humor...
ffroggy
PS personally, I consider Achilles, Gub, Stryker, Abister, and Gary my mentors. Some of them joined later than I did, but I have learned a lot from them. Oh yeah, and you too pocketMAD... You've taught me a thing or two about club organization and administration.

Mentoring, if that's what you want to call it, has been going on for a while, and there's a lot more of it than you'd expect. Mentoring is never really "official", but I agree it's a nice gesture towards newbies. :)

Let's all go and pick a n00b to teach him the ways of the Martians! :P

The first person who mentored me was GTR34. We were great friends. Then later, Kruncher mercilessly taught me how to dogfight honorably. I'm still learning but I know for sure that I am more honorable than I was before. ibcf taught me how to dogfight without gyride. Still learning. lol

The first person I met on mars was Achilles.  It was back when I was unregistered.  Lol.  He (along with my other friend the_dude, not TheDude) taught me how to aim, shoot, move around, fly, etc.
Kruncher taught me how to dogfight properly.  :D

When I first joined, I didn't talk much but then it was Beatles who started me off on the path to talking to new people I met and then it was ibcf who got he into the custom worlds and stuff. Then I met the rest of you guys and you helped me to get to where I am now :D

Just go dogfight a bunch of different players, and ask for tips. You don't need someone to "Mentor" you.

Sure its nice to dogfight a skilled player over and over and master certain styles. I used to do that with Flyman. We had a dogfight almost every day. Sure those dogfights helped my sniping, but when I played somebody like kruncher or Tigerstorm I'd get whooped.

If you play only one player to much you get used to the style they use, and when it comes time to play someone else with a different style, you get owned.

I agree with Paladin about how you don't need a mentor but there should be an instruction manuel on tips and tricks of mars explorer. Ex. I didn't know you could snipe until I accidentally pressed the Shift key.
