Mars Explorer, Documents, Official News

Hello everyone!

In between some more serious updates, I just added a "Players Online" counter to the homepage.
Now you can see at a glance how many other people are awaiting your presence!
(You will need to have the Unity browser plugin installed to see the counter)

Eventually (long term) I plan to have an integrated user registration system - complete with friends lists - so you can see how many of your friends are online and what servers they are on.

And while we are on the subject, I have noticed an interesting trend: It seems that there are generally 3/4 as many active games as there are active players. Anyone know why this is? Perhaps it could be networking difficulties - or do people just prefer solitude? 1.10 includes a system that orders the server list by the number of active players in each game (popular games being at the top of the list) - and this may help to alleviate the syndrome.

Have a great - and productive - new year,

-Aubrey

P.S. My apologies to those of you who have recently contacted me about new vehicles, soundtracks, and worlds - I do appreciate your comments, and I will get back to you asap. I have a lot going on right now - both in the ATI Network and the real world :)

There's an error in the friends list plan. If you can name your player anything, wouldn't that give you the same friends? For example, Bob is friends with Bill. Max comes along and names his buggy Bob. Would he have Bill as a friend?

You ask why so many games with only one person? I believe it is because hosting a server has become a prestige/popularity thing like "Look how many players joined MY game!" I have read this exact statement in the text box. Players will also join a game and tell everyone in that game to join their game and they state the server name then disconnect. UGH!

a few more questions...many people, in order to clone, add spaces in their names, getting rid of the "2" and such. would accounts be the same? and also, if some one isn't allowd to make an account, can they play? or would they have a "visitor" name or something of the sort?

Do you realize that you just asked him to completely remake the whole game on a different platform that does not support most of the things that unity does?

Although Unity might be offering a publishing option for flash player, so you might be in luck. (only if Aubrey chooses to do that)

'Scuse me, couldn't you please stop this advertising?

This is getting annoying, so could someone please ban this person, not just a simple account ban, because they seem to be making multiple accounts.

Note to the spammer:
You are attracting attention for your website for online resume writing and custom essay writing. However this is not the kind of attention you want. People will just get annoyed at you and boycott your products. They will spread word-of-mouth about what you do and soon your business will get bankrupt. Don't attract this kind of attention, at least make your advertising a little bit more subtle.

Also, be more intelligent about it. Your target audience is not a good one because the ages that people play this game are mostly in the range of 10-15. People ages 10-15 don't need to write resumes because they are not in college anyhow and the legal working age is 14, and 14-year olds don't need to write resumes for jobs. And if they did, if they were graduated from college already and looking for a job, they wouldn't be playing Marsxplr anyhow because they're too busy.

Someone do something about these people.

EDIT: A note to people who may want to use the essays:
Ok, I do admit that some people may want to have their essays written for them. Please note, however, that since this is a game that kids play, you shouldn't be advertising it. Why?
Because kids need to learn. Teachers assign essays for a reason. I know how you feel, people, about writing essays. I have to write them too you know. But it would be time better spent for them if they, instead of ordering one in the mail, made it themselves. In the short term I guess it's better, but you need to prepare for the test that's likely coming up with it. The test is probably big and worth a lot of points. If you bomb it because you hired someone to write an essay for you, that's you problem. If you write it yourself you get more studying done.
Also, the essay, to be written correctly, will need tons of specifying. What they teach you will need to be reflected in that. My teachers usually provide an equal amount of information in their lectures as in the textbook and it is usually not mentioned in the textbook. The people will need to read the textbook in order to write the essay correctly.
Sure, you could also read the essay. But you won't know the underlying thought process underneath each sentence.
And who knows what kind of information may be in that essay and unit to be covered? It could potentially save someone's life in the future. If the person who was supposed to write the essay didn't and the information included would be useful for saving someone's life, if they die, then it's your fault and you must bear the guilt, along with the person who wrote the essay. But mainly you.

A note to the spammer and company:
Well, it's a good target audience for this kind of product. But in order to successfully and correctly write the essay, you will need a lot of very specific information:
-The student's writing style: if the teacher thinks they plagiarised then the people fail it and they want a refund.
-The bias by the teacher, and the student's underlying mental toughness to stand up to the teacher's bias, and also their laziness (which may be predicted): This is making the tone of the writing correct.
-The rubric: This is so the writing will be in the correct format and the student won't fail, and thus want a refund.
-Extremely fast writing and mailing: For essays due in two days or less. If they are due the very next day, boy oh boy, you're in trouble.
-High quality writing: This is obvious, but probably not present.
-Many employees: If your business must be successful.
-Age- and lexile-appropriate diction: So the teacher won't know that it's being, in fact, plagiarised.

This will take a lot of money.
And if the person fails the test because of you writing their essay, they may want a refund. If they're caught, they will want a refund, and will get a fine, perhaps, and it will ruin potential clients.
If the information will be used to save someone's life someday, perhaps, it will be partially your fault for writing the essay for them and not refusing. You are ruining kids' lives in ways they may not realize.

Congratulations, you may have killed someone. Want that on your conscience, and if you believe in God, and heaven and h---, you really wanna go to the latter for this?

It reminded me that my doctor recommended me to eat healthier foods, so I drink more water, taking fish oil and organic bees pollen supplements and try to engage in sport a lot more, but it's hard since I love to use my computer for literally hours (yeah, it's addicting..)

I disagree.
We should have a friends list, it would be helpful. We wouldn't have to search through all those games on Mars just to find one. I believe a friends list should be added to Mars and don't believe all that cheesy crap about how "We're all friends here!" which I think is a waste of breath and I get annoyed how people say it like it's true, because it usually isn't. Although, it would be nice if we /were/, if anyone gets my hint.
I mean, there's a lot of nice people on Mars, but wouldn't it be helpful to have a list of people that you could sit down and have a nice relaxing dogfight with? (hehe, this is what helps me relax though LOL!!!) There are also a lot of jerks here too, like people who start Clan Wars etc, and we will have to sift through all those club servers just to see what our friends are doing. Then the clan war people make a huge big deal about how they're leaving and make server name spam, like:
"TYLER IZ LEEVING MARZ! SAY GOODBY TO HIM HERE! D: WE WILL MISS HIM!"

We have to sift through that. There is also some server spam where people type a whole paragraph for the custom world, a log one, and we can't see the other servers. Friends lists are beneficial for the community, and the noobs can use them to go to servers where all their drama queen friends are, and we can use them to see where the nice, respectful people are. If our friends are in a hidden game we can go to it, and hiding would turn into a more efficient way of passwording and the drama queen games would show up.
Plus, we could go into game where we could be accepted instead of having idiots swear at us like many do as a way of greeting. Frustrating.
And if we all had a friends list, we wouldn't automatically be entered into a game where the most of our friends are, we could choose to do so. If a game looks more interesting and we feel extroverted and the need to meet people, we could join some other games.

I'm sorry if I offended anyone through the voicing of my opinion. Nothing personal to you cheezburger. Don't be angry with me.

tl;dr: Having a friends list would be extremely beneficial to our community because we wouldn't have to put up with crap from others, and we could avoid drama queens like Tyler (who banned a whole bunch of people from his server because he was having relationship issues with his girlfriend *rolls eyes*).
No offense to anyone.

Just because it has a friends list doesn't mean it's like Facebook. The way /I/ envision a Friends List is that it says what "friends" you have on the game itself, and not online. I think online is fine the way it is. On many forums it says what users are online, and that would be useful too, but it would not be where you choose a bunch of people and see who's online from who you know. It would not be where you share messages with them and announcements (sorry I'm kinda clueless in this respect, I don't have an account) but where you just see which people that you know are in which games at the moment. Besides, we have PM'ing, which would technically qualify us as "social networking" but not a Facebook competitor. So people can still be cyberbullied on here. It could be a bit easier if there was a full-blown friends list for everywhere you go, but I would oppose this, and defriending shouldn't be a concern because it's your private list of people you want to see and they shouldn't be notified if you decide to take them off (and if they make you really mad, maybe you should keep them there just so you can see which games you're in so you can avoid them ;)  ).

That's good that there's no offense. *sigh of relief, wonders whether cheezburger is mad*

And the game that said <SUPREME-EMPEROR> or <SUPREME-KING> Tyler was leaving? It was full.
And when Tyler got mad he banned people from his game, cussed them out because they made a joke (not about him), and he probably made up these idiotic clan wars because of his anger too.
