EDITED thy post
Submitted By sebfromnz on 13/03/11
Mars Explorer, sebfromnz, Community, Creations, New Vehicles

***Edit: currently busy with life/work/sailing, how ever im just dropping in to mention i do have a few ideas im trying out slowly atm, and will post results some time in the future
(new statment above)

been testing out a new way of making some vehicles.. mostly just plane's so far, and each one has been getting better than the last in terms of making it look better, as im starting from a 2d outline of the middle of the plane and using the push pull, and scale tools to modify the 2d shape to make it a 3d model

even newer biplane(still working on it a bit):
 new biplane
 ,
thats all for now... will add more photo's soon

new plane:

single winged monoplane top view
 .
another top view.. forgot i took one already
 side on
front view
********UPDATE********** post now starts from my comment, with the photo of a space ship

Updates post again... cos i bored, and in the mood of posting more pictures here

firstly

Helicopter:

*reworked over whole vehicle, so all the unneeded crap has been taken out of it
* smoothed out whole model
*added name badge
*destroyed it, then put it back together, i.e the big main parts are different components
 new paint job
back(showing jet units.. painted grey)top
secondly

Mini jet powered Biplane of orangeness :p (yes i was still bored after editing helicopter)

*mini jet powered biplane...(well it's a lot smaller than the other two a made hence the mini part)
*new look wings
*jet powered this time
*yet to add landing gear... but that will come in time
front(i did say it was orange...)
angled shot
 top
side
back

and why stop there....

MINI JET ..... lost one set of wings and dropped the remaining set lower in to the body... and mini jet
 it's the mini jet
:P soo small and cute.... tis actually small... well compared to the biplanes i made it is.. and they are about the size of the jet
(body size of both planes is the same size as the motorbike... but just with wings)

**edit on the update just above about the mini jet.... i changed the wings a bit
 edited version
now has the nice curve in it
and edit on the edit i just posted a few min ago
now with a bit of angle as well

**having soo much fun messing around here...** (did three updates of this post within 30 minutes, all on the single winged mini plane)

********UPDATE**********

Motorbike:

(updated design, as in back wheel is now smaller, and motorbike is flatter in angle than it was before[i.e back end is lower than it was before])

*as far as handling, high top speed, leans over when turning
*not very agile
*spacer function? umm not to sure need help on this one
*more sort of based for fun
*needs world designed with it in mind....
name badge got moved to where it is in this photo
new paint job
yes there are side vents... if you didn't spot them the first time around
front
closer look at some detail
looking up at it on the side
back
now with different colours, along with quarry green

comments/criticism is welcome

That's really nice!

Maybe try giving the driver more visibility from the cockpit?

the bottom of the cockpit is level with the top of the front wheel, and the bike in angled up towards the back to also help out with visibility, which is why the back wheel is bigger than the front one

so in other words you will able to see forward, just not backwards, to do both would be a lot harder to make it look good at the same time

Any idea on the space bar function/ Handling?

Is this the same kinda concept as the race/off road buggy? ( in terms of gameplay use age)

Two words. Robot transformation. It should be added as a feature to all vehicles, but since it isn't you could start. I also suggest making the commands for the robot transformation customizable sentences. Therefor everyone will be saying awesome stuff like, "Super duper motorbike of awesomeness! Activate destructo mode!"

Now that... is just amazing... wow! The big rear wheel suggests this will be a really fast vehicle - am I right?

*imagines the result of sniping out front wheel at high speed*

One thing - you planning on rigging the wheel mounts to rotate? The suspension could be a little awkward, I guess, but still feasible.

You considered sending this to BMW yet? xD

I disagree. In real life, tyres need large amounts of cooling, and a mudguard would affect that. Also, it would decrease rear visability even further, as it would have to allow for the suspension, so it would be quite high.

A rear spoiler would be cool though, and it could stick out backwards over the rear wheel.

But look even some modern motorbike like this has something over the back wheel. And if we are talking about real like, you wouldn't be able to see through all the mud splatted on your wind screen without a mud guard :P

This beast doesn't have a mudguard. Neither does:
Two definitive sci-fi motorcycles don't have mudguards. So, it's not necessary. But if seb wants to add one, I'm not stopping him.

And... I also noticed the buggy's massive, completely visible mudguards.~

speaking of mud guards, has anyone failed to notice that the body work follows the wheels, as in follows the curve of the wheel to a certian point?

as in any mud will get caught there, and we are on mars..... i don't see any mud flying of the buggy's wheels

I do like panzer's idea, actually. A lot. And the bike would have to auto-stabilize on the ground as well, anyway, to make it useable.

...why does the inverted-gullwing shape on that smaller plane ring bells? Hmm. I wonder who used that before.

Wonders why the poor apostrophe is being abused again...

Just clarifying - the inside of the wheels (hubs? - the yellow bits, anyways) of the bike would use what material? There are only four materials used by Mars vehicles:
- Chrome (like buggy hubs)
- Main (main body)
- Accent (the second color option)
- Cockpit (pretty self-explanatory)

There's also the buggy wing material, but that has (so far) only been used for buggies.

I think it would look best with chrome on the inner wheel, and on the strutty-wheel-support-things.

is a pity you can view all the angles i get to view...(would have to take 100 or so photos to show you)

as there are some really nice views of all the models i have posted photos of in this post that make them just look right, which only makes me want them to be options in the game to play around in

i think i might just have to make a bunker with all the models in it..... and place it somewhere well hidden as an added extra to a map

Yeah, the Chance-Vought F4U Corsair is one of my favourite planes (AMAZING main gear, truly stunning mechanical engineering). All I'm saying is that the moment I make a biplane, seb does too.

<sarcasm>
Stop copyinnnnggg!!!
</sarcasm>

Other inverted gull wing aircraft (from memory):
- Ju-87
- He 118
- Fairey Gannet

There's no bitterness here, I only intended it as a ... slightly sarcastic accusation. I don't own the wing shape, after all xD.

I knew MacDane's Biplane had a gull-wing on the upper wing, but I haven't seen MacDane's jets... (link plz? xD)

Seb,

These are really cool, but it is my opinion that all vehicles (including the hovercraft) should have no names, but links in-game to a bio on the maker and a description and gameplay ideas of the vehicle.

ok now that you guys have seen the mini jets, and are familiar with what they look like well.......

the blue highlighted speck in the photo im about to show you is, the single winged mini jet

basically at the moment i only have the hull of the space ship... well minus a few other parts that are to be added like the bridge, engines, fins ect

at this point i would ask how big is the Sky King, but i got told its 2600m long, as this stands the ship looks massive, but its been pegged at 264 and a bit meters long in its current scaled up size for this photo

there is a few hidden areas already built in to the hull is a few places... im just yet to make a way to get in to them, and and there's nothing done on the inside so far....

oh red areas = the force field's that you can pass through
basically the back end of the ship is a massive hanger

oh and yea.... tis going to be a bit of a maze to get to different parts of the ship... just for fun

told you it was a blue speck

It's possible that unity scales everything up by ten, because 260m does sound small, really. So I personally think this is going to be of a similar size to the Sky King.

No offense, I actually think this loks better than the King. Can't wait to see it finished! :D

basically i drew a 2d outline of the middle of the plane, then used the push/pull, and scale tools mainly, along with drawing different shapes on the first shape and also using the push/pull and scale tools

yes it's another propeller powered one
frontish view of it
side on
back
maybe could have mini jet flame as it's exhaust... as in it's a turboprop biplane

One question - if you continue to add more and more planes, does this mean PA's survey will have to be continually updated? And that we'd have to revote every time you post a new picture?

not sure... not sure how many more will be made as well... but it will probably slow down, if not stop soon, as my whole 7 day week will be taken up by life, and i wont have much time to do anything, so you may find that these my be the last planes
