New buggy!!!

Hello all!

I'm sure most of you are familiar with where marsxplr is going. It's heading for graphical brilliance! So I have made this long awaited updated mars buggy. This buggy features

  • Complete and detailed suspension with working components!
  • Texture mapping throughout the whole model
  • More detailed and smooth mesh
  • Ambient occlusion maps for greater shading detail!
  • Shadow texture maps for greater shading detail!
  • Alpha maps on each texture map to determine the shininess of areas according to where they are
  • New lights (Including pop-up headlamps for dark places) with unity light flares!
  • The color is still completely customizable, along with the suspension spring and brake caliper color.

This is the first time I have not done any renders in Modo (my 3D modeling program). This time, it is all real-time rendered in unity!! A true graphical breakthrough for Mars explorer. Check it out!

New! For all you classic mars players, here's a retro buggy design I made last night!

Explore the new buggy Here!

Enjoy!

Warning to users: salivating on keyboards can damage them. Learned from experience ;)

Perfect, GTR, just perfect. Even the rear light looks less... ummm... ibcf-imagined lol.

One question - "working components" - does that mean the suspension is pre-rigged for us, so we can just "plug-and-play" in unity, so to speak?

Basically the suspension is divided into parts so the developers have an easy time actuating each part :)

Well, keep in mind the other one was rendered in modo, this is INSIDE of unity. that makes a huge difference.

GTR, it appears wheels on one side have tread pointing one way, and the tread is opposite on the other side.

Unity has come so far :P (That means it was rendered in real-time, right?)

That is so awesome, and so much more sleek than the current buggy! This is going to be a huge improvement!

The only thing that I could do without is the "Terrium" writing on the wheels, and maybe the tail lights, but I have a feeling I will grow to love the tail lights.

YAY!

The bottom half of the tail light ring lights up when the brakes are applied :b and yes, real time rendering! This was still all possible in unity 2.6, though. :b

oooo man!  ima diggin' teh remodel of the old buggy style.  It still got all that classic old school style, but wif less fat!   mmmmhmmm!!!!

hopefully we can choose which buggy we can drive in game?  because if im in a more classic, chillin' mood, i would choose to drive your retro remodel.  but if im in an adventurous and dangerous mood, teh new buggy it what i would prefer drivin'.  Y'all KNOW that!

Perhaps a way to include both in game would be for the retro buggy and the new buggy to have two physics types, with the retro buggy using the current buggy physics, and the new one, since it looks rather suited for racing, could by default be faster, but with less shock absorbtion and stability?

Just my two cents.  Both of these buggies are amazing.

I love what you did with the Mars Buggy! Everything looks really sleek and awesome. The new wheels go super well with it too!

I wonder if you could incorporate  the shocks into the classic design.
