Most dearest Flynn,

 

Your lack of communication with us martians is causing me to worry greatly about you.  Oftten times I fear the worst knowing that a hiatus of this magnitude is unlike you. 

 

But if the latter isn't the reason, please do know that we still respect you and your goodness at programin' and playin' n everything!  If the reason of you absence is because of stress working on mars explorer, do not fret!  As we understand that you do not have an easy job with all the programing and especially the networking.  At times maybe we get out of hand but don't let that bring you down.  

 

Just like what kruncher said, join a game if you see familiar faces (or usernames in this case) and come n chat n play!  Mars Explorers greatness will have a hard time succeeding without you!

I would like to say that I think that the mars community would much rather have you back as a friend than have you absent as a programmer (and we are VERY worried about you). If you want to stop working on mars, for any reason, then go right ahead. The work you have put into this community and the game is very valuable and you have my thanks. :)

I've accepted that Flynn may be deceased because this disappearing is unlike him in every way I imagined. If he's still alive, I hope he follows through with his gratuitous leaving.

 

Edit: I want to make something very clear. I do not mean what I said above in a harsh way. There are several  reasons (some personal between him and me) why I would be shocked if Flynn had actually abandoned us. But I'll emphasize one in particular, which alone should justify my feelings toward this situation:

 

Flynn said that he would do his best for Mars, but in particular he told me that he would do his best not to make the mistake Aubrey did, which was essentially abandoning us. This is why Flynn started making frequent posts and update threads, answering many PMs, making a Skype group, and even updating a Twitter feed. He was even going to make an open source so that if something bad happened and he could no longer develop, we would at least be able to continue without him. Everything about what he was doing was for us to succeed. 

 

If Flynn intentionally vanished, he must have good reasoning. His leaving us with no source, forcing us to start from scratch after months of work and anticipation is a very unfortunate ordeal. If the Flynn I thought I knew had done this, I hope he gets the most out of his choice.

Flynn, if you're there, please say something. Don't linger in hibernation programming the most epic game of all time, take some time off and say hello to your friends.

 

If Flynn is dead, that is a possibility, and if he isn't, he's been gone long enough for the community to start development by itself.

 

Dammit Flynn.

I have made an edit to my previous comment in order to clarify some things.

First off, Flyclub is indeed alive and well. Why he has taken off from Marsxplr is beyond me, and I do not wish to interfere myself in personal affairs that do not involve me. 

 

This is not the first time a player has left the community unannounced, and will not be the last time. There have been thousands of players whose names are long forgotten that have left this game without any announcement. Many registered players have simply vanished as well. 

 

Many of these players have also returned in time, which I am confident that Flyclub will as well. 

As with many of us, Marsxplr is too intertwined within us to just leave permanently.

I'm never one to say much, so I'll say this much. We all have our reasons for stuff. So if Flynn wants to comeback he will, don't get me wrong I miss him to but I don't wanna force him. But he still better comeback >insert better comment here<

I am very glad that Flynn is alive and well :D I really wish he had warned us of his leaving. It's too bad there's no way for us to tell him that we have restarted development.

ah he will be back... knowing that i sort of left with out saying anything a while back now... and just because, heads up i will vanish again with out warning as sometimes there just isn't enough time in life for everything, so it would be nice of flynn to return to you people of mars, but thats up to him, as there may be other things that are taking up his time, like there are in my life.... so dare i say it even though kruncher had good intentions in making this post i dont see that it will help bring back flynn anytime soon... as for when/if he come's back is up to him, and him alone... if time allows him to come back

After reading through some of these, I don't see why Flynn would ever come back. In fact, if he didn't, I would be proud of him for moving on.

This is an open letter, right? So i can add anything i want to say here, right?

Without a doubt you've done more for Mars than any other player. Heck, your spirit and talent are too good for this place! Thanks for everything. :D

What happened to Flynn? Internet knocked out? or something... worse...? :S

Sat, June 15 - Friends, I saw Flynn on the game tonight and we talked in a private server. He was in a state of agonizing inner conflict about possibly returning to Mars and he was trying unsuccessfully to make a permanent decision to return or to leave forever. He feels that he can't return without becoming hopelessly addicted to it all over again. And, he believes that time will not heal this fear. He flat refuses to look at the forum even to read this post for fear of being pulled back in.

 

@Cyber - He was hoping to find you (without logging onto the usual channels) in order to apologize to you for breaking his promise not to leave.

 

We exchanged last goodbyes and best wishes. Then, after nearly five years of folly and friendship on Mars Explorer, Flynn (flyclub) and I parted ways.
