Will There EVER Be A Linux Version of Mars?
Submitted By MrSniper on 13/12/24

Hello Martians,
I am building a new computer very soon, and was considering installing Windows 7 or Cylon Linux. Please don't give me your opinion on which OS is better. Anyways, I was wondering if there is any plans for Mars to work natively in Linux? Or even will there be a Unity Web Player for Linux? I really want to avoid emulators like Wine, but currently it looks like thats my only option :(
MY OPINION ON THE MATTER:
I think the dev's should make Mars work on Linux, after all both ARE open source :P
Anyways if you know anything please tell me below!
Thanks
~MrSniper

I heard Mars works for Linux. I remember it was... Abister who had Linux? I think. And Apple's source is derived from Linux, so I hear. So it would probably work.

Try the Unity web Player. It's what I use, even though I'm Win7...

All of us knew nothing about code once ;) there's plenty online to help you learn if you want to, so that in future you could make your own version of Mars.

Mars Explorer cannot function correctly with Linux, because Unity 2.6 (which it uses) did not support Linux.
Terrium, Mars' successor, almost certainly will. It will take very little effort to create a Linux standalone variant of Terrium. Unity 4.1+ supports Linux as an export option.
Hope that helps.

"I think the dev's should make mars work on Linux." Who is "dev's"? The people you (as a community) banned from posting about development to your forum? No. Aubrey, who is working on another game, abeit very slowly? No. Since Mars is open source and it is so easy to make games work with Linux because that is also open source, do it.
I think, to be fair, that Mars is history now. It's so old that, while it can be jury-rigged to work on modern operating systems, it will eventually end up beyond any possible support.
