Unity from a Unity created game *lol gaming jokes*
Submitted By AJNcreature on 14/06/08
Mars Explorer, AJNcreature, Community, Discussions, Other

Gah, I'm out of clever title ideas...

Hey guys, I haven't been here in a while; I've had some computer issues (and still do) but I didn't come here to bore you all with my recent life (but you can read about it in my next book: In the eyes of a creature. Published in 1975)

I come on every few days just to check my messages, browse the forum for any new or exciting news, and just check up on how things are coming. The only recent posts have been people leaving, people returning, and vain efforts to bring the community together. I do respect these attempts but we need something more.

How can we be a community without unity? Comm-unity? *Cough cough communists??*

I don't know if my efforts are in vain, but I have to try, no? I wish to bring together the community. The few people that are still here - and I know you are here - if you have any ideas that would help, ANY ideas, please state them below. This is an open disscusion I'm creating just to see what you guys would want and who's left.

I could arrange a relyable server on a set day every week; I noticed there are NO servers online. Is this place dead? Or is it the lack of experienced players making the gaming experience less enjoyable?

So please, PLEASE, reply with any opinions, options, feedback, snide comments on how stupid I am and how I should give up on this place, ANYTHING.

Also - hey guys :3 How are you? ^.^

Most of the problem is right where you said it is:

How can we be a community without [an updated version of] unity?

Mars is running on an obsolete version of Unity, and several major OSes are dropping support for it.  (*coughapplecough*)  The only way we can really save MArs is if everyone switches to a version compiled by a more recent version of Unity, and no one here seems to be able to do so withoug major glitches developing.

Gigp, about the glitches - I fixed them all and released a version of Mars that runs on Unity 4 (the latest so far). It got hidden a while back iirc, but I think that was undone. It's also on the Terrium site. Listed as the Mars 2.5 Source

Only direct connect would work immediately - someone needs to find a server for it to have a standard server list - but it would run on literally every current operating system.
I'll even export it for you if anyone's interested...
Not that you are, of course.

Pie - treat me like a drone. I'm not a "martian" but it's not illegal for me to comment, at least according the the Aubrey-written rules (I don't know about the unwritten rulebook).

My Opinion:

I think the age of mars players here play a big role in this too I begun playing this game when I was in middle school and now that I'm almost done with high school and almost an adult the things I play and do simply doesn't include mars and I think some mars players feel the same

AD - two things.
- No.
- It's... I guess double-deactivated. My copy no longer has any of the weapon code I put in, and it has something else important removed that, while replaceable, makes the entire thing broken. So, even if you manage to snaffle a weapon copy from someone who lied about deleting it, it will be completely dysfunctional.
Whoop.

Sadly, the game is basically almost broken so please everyone, discard your theories about why Mars Explorer isn't popular and maintain low expectations for reviving it. The Golden Age of today is that our game list hasn't yet gone black.

suggestion:
Yes creature, your hosting would help, especially if you were to host at a specific time each week and keep disruptive players to a minimum. Thanks crea.

One reason why there is no unity is because there is no Unity.

Srsly Unity 2 not compatible with Mavericks xP

Is there a newer version yet

Lamp.
Mars 3.0 by flynn was Unity 3 iirc.
Terrium and my Mars 2.5 source use Unity 4.
Both versions of Unity run happily on Mavericks.

Hello, Cre.  It has been a while.

Though I may not be on as often as I used to be, I do agree with you and Kruncher - you could host a game.  It may help, it may not, but I'm no fortune teller.  :)

I'm sure your efforts are not in vain, and it couldn't hurt to try.

People we know do tend to get online, but we're just never there when they do.  Try emailing?  Unless it's kinda stupid in your opinion.

Oh well, I hope this helped.

P.S., I've been okay-ish.  Just a lot going on in life.  You?

I may not be the best at this, but I will say this... Mars is a game, no matter what you do it's a game! I'm sick and tired of people treating noobs lke they are ruining the game THEY ARN'T!!! It's not their falt for playing the game. And if you just try going into a game and talking, even when they tell you that your dumb, if you keep being happy, try to tel them not too, it's not that hard, so try it.
I wish we could all just stop fighting and being mad. YOu know those people who just kind of linger in the shadows, you think they are noobs... But sometimes they arn't they can be the cool people. Everyone was a noob once. Being a noob isn't bad, it means your new, and still learning. Just because your done with highschool doesn't make you an adult, it just makes you that much older. Unless your 20 you shouldn't be saying "your an adult"

Creature, you should start a server. It might help! Thank's.

And remember... To Beat The Unbeatable Foe!!!

It might still be a game either way, you're right in that matter, but it's not the game people want to play. For instance, if a few people are playing a game of ram, then a few more people come in and decide to play quarry tag with jets, it kind of ruins the game of ram.
Like if you wanted to play Halo and your little cousin wants to play My Little Pony Island Adventure and instead you have to play with a pony.

But if everyone in one server AGREES on a game to play, wether it be laser tag, ram, or just goofing around, then yes, experience won't matter.
