Greetings everyone!

I have been hard at work on the tank this morning, but I am not quite satisfied with my design so far.

Everyone is more than welcome to submit their own model - and I will either select one, or incorporate the best elements of each. All cool designs will get credit on the "Tributes" page, and everyone who participates is guaranteed the satisfaction, sense of accomplishment, and improved skills that are an such an integral part of modeling futuristic vehicles :)

  • Please submit each entry in it's own document
  • Body should be somewhere around 2.5 X 5 meters
  • Tracks should be around 1 X 2 X 1.5 meters
  • Please provide a simple, smooth track surface that I can attach an animated track texture to
  • My current tank model can be downloaded here: » Aubrey's Tank

All the best,

-Aubrey

I see it too, there is something missing, but I can't find it, it has something to do with the split in the design though, I like the split, but something about it needs more mass........

Edit:

Perhaps make the cockpit a bit wider, that is, on the side make it be 180 degrees, not 90..

Edit:

It also looks a little like you can snap it in two, perhaps some more strength in the model?  (basically more mass connecting either half)

I haven't the slightest clue on how to make vehicles for the game but i do have some ideas for it:
  • Make the cockpit more diamond shaped when seen from top view. (when looking from the top, make the cockpit come out towards the middle tread from what used to be the top and bottom edges of the cockpit. As is, the cockpit just looks to tiny)
  • I am a bit confused at to which is the front and back of the vehicle. I like the front being what is shown in the second picture but please correct me if i am wrong.
  • Maybe put some headlights on the ends of the "legs" (For lack of a better word)
  • As flyclub said, it looks a bit weak with the split...I too like the split but it just seems a bit off...maybe leave the back (front being what i think it should be as mentioned above) portion un-split and have only the front split. I think that would solve that problem.
That seems like it covers everything i see wrong. Overall, it looks more like a speed racer than a tank but that may be a good thing, it's unique. I like it.

LOL! the tread in there is a separate object, which means that it can be duplicated within unity, then turned into the regular tank, in fact the file CAME with only one tread LOL!

Ok I have done more modifications, and will have a picture done shortly.

For now let me explain what the modifications in the NEXT (not previous) picture will be:

As I went through the model I realized that both sides were VERY well connected, so instead of strengthening the connection, I simply made it more visible.

I also moved the cockpit and upper body to the back of the tank (this modification is in the first picture as well)

I have saved in versions, so if you have any "favorite" one, just pick it out and I can send it.

Now that I have seen the bottom,  I have realized that the lowermost mart of the lower connection is shorter than the uppermost part of the lower connection - that will be the next thing I work on.

Flyclub: Your mods are looking great! Once your design is ready, please post the .blend file so we can all check it out.

I just added some finishing touches to my current design - including really cool track textures and an improved observation bubble / teardrop cockpit.

I hope to release 1.9.7 within a day or two, which will include the new tank and various other bugfixes...

Everyone is welcome to create a model, and even once I release 1.9.7 it won't necessarily mean that the design is final.

I am starting to like my model with a couple of Flyclub's enhancements, but if you have a better idea - I can't wait to see it!

I like this vehicle a lot more than the current tank, but I cant see why a tank would have a transparent canopy?
- I would much prefer a rotating turret on top, just like my good old tank in Recoil
(Yes, I know it has guns, rocket launchers and stuff on it, but those can be removed so it suits this game.)
BTW: Another cool thing about the Recoil tank was that it could transform into a sub when needed and that the crosshairs were visible and followed the turrets direction in follow mode , making for great shots even at high speeds. Please see the pictures in the linked page for more details.

All the best, Johnny

I thought of a setting maybe for the tank. You would be able to make the body higher but the treads stay on the ground, like the torso of the tank rising up on six poles connected to the treads? That would help to avoid lasers, since the tank isn't good at avoiding them. Tell me what you think, but i don't care if you think it wouldn't work, Mares XPLR rocks the way it is. I just wanted to contribute an idea I hope is original.
