Mars Explorer, admin, Documents, Official News, 1.9.6
Greetings everyone!
I have been very busy of late (and will continue to be for at least the next week), but I have decided to release 1.9.6 "as is" - in true beta spirit. You get to play with tons of new stuff, but do so with the understanding that there are many more features I haven't quite had a chance to implement yet.
Integrated Player list, which the host can use to expel unruly players from their server
Customizable game physics:
Tweak gravity, handling, performance, flight aerodynamics, even the availability of each vehicle - and your settings automatically synchronize to everyone connected to your game!
Export your settings to a simple text string, and share or save them for later use
Auxiliary:
Many bugs that were related to the frequent crashes in 1.9.5 have been fixed. 1.9.6 should be much more reliable!
New networking state synchronization logic: faster, simpler, and much greater error tolerance: Please let me know if anyone still experiences all other players occasionally ceasing to move. I am also interested in whether other players movements appear smoother or "more jerky" on your screens. This new logic should definitely provide more spectacular networked vehicle collisions!
Buggy and Tank autoleveling now work relative to terrain normals
Multiple players or bots materializing at the same time now stack instead of exploding
The dreaded "bot block" has been fixed! There shouldn't be any more "ghost vehicles" cluttering up your servers.
Better looking buggy wheels and suspension - you can now see the tread in crisp detail!
New "FPS cap" in the Game Settings panel allows you to specify how hard you want your computer to work on rendering the game. Now hopefully we won't melt Fly's GPU :)
Slightly smoother server entry
New buttons in Game Settings to adjust your resolution while playing Mars Explorer
Properly textured Lava Racer terrain, and slightly enhanced freestyle seafloor
Future:
Finish rewrite of the Hovercraft physics
Add Olim's long-anticipated submarine - which we have now decided will double as a high performance jetboat when operating at maximum buoyancy
Upgrade the airbrake and vehicle brake models to incorporate MacDane's excellent idea of gradual application, allowing you to "tap" the brakes for smoother deceleration
Add server settings presets (Standard, SuperFlight, TankWars, etc) which will be selectable during server creation, and which will prevent host from switching physics on everyone in-game. Server list will show physics mode for each game, "custom" indicating that the physics can be changed while you are playing - which is great fun, as long as a noob isn't hosting the server :)
Expose more physics parameters for customization - drift, tire size, suspension range, etc
Tons more stuff, such as multiple islands and a moving Sea Monster in applicable worlds
This is the best ever Aubrey! What a fantastic job! I really loved the wings in 194, but hated the ones in 195. :( (no offense)
But when i played 196 today...... ......HOLY MACKORAL! I love everything about it! The wings are back! YES! The look and work efficiently amazingly! BRAVO! The host user settings... ...absolutely LOVE! Fantastic!
It seems that playing on good settings flies faster than on simple. My problem is I can't play on good because my FPS fluctuates between 10 and 5 on it. Which makes it hard to see and very glitchy and laggy. So while everyone zooms away on good i eat there dust in the back on simple. So if there is any way ANY way to get better FPS (although I can't pay any money for it) Please help me.
I have the same problem. Normally low FPS is due to not having enough memory. This can't be the case because I have 2g's of memory on my macbook and can't stay in above the teens on the good setting. I guess good is to good.
when i tried to load it in my browser, it took me 5 minutes to load the initial unity thingy, and then froze when I tried to start a game or load someone else's
when i tried to load the app, it takes 11 hous, 35 minutes.....
