Change the status to "Active" when ready for primetime!

so far i have got about half of the work done plus a couple of other ideas i had for a different look for it, now to all of those people that are trying to claim that this monster is their design look and weep cause you ant got the skill nor are you the ones that made this beast of a monster!
here are some pics of me work so far,of the new idea i had, as i am working on both this one and the old one to fix the inside
this is the other idea plus as you can see i have been working on the other one in the first pic to get the inside done

Hi Seb
You have obviously put a lot of work into this model.
Is it available for download through the google 3D warehouse?
I would like to see it in Sketchup so I can evaluate it closer.

  • You may want to smooth it down a bit, as there are many lines on the surface that doesn't seem to have a function.
  • Also Sketchup has a habit of breaking surfaces up in irrational ways, when you extrude or scale stuff. This is seen e.g. if you take a square box and divide it into 3 equal slices and then scale the mid section of it up or down. The two boxes on the side rarely end up exact copies if each other. - A way to correct this could be by deleting lines on surfaces of the one copy and replacing them with lines matching the ones on the copy you want to keep. This will force Sketchup to make new faces that match the other copy.

I hope my ramblings are of any help. ;-)

All the best, Johnny

ok here is the link to download it for those who want to look around with it and see what they think
http://files.filefront.com/Sky+Monster+V125skp/;13678454;/fileinfo.html
i did most of it myself but i had some help from spiffy to copy the engine on to the other side as i am no good at doing that yet, as when i did the engine i forgot to write down where on the model the lines were to make and how long were they so i could draw it on the other side, so i hope you enjoy looking at it to those who do have Sketchup, well dane the lines around the engine are needed other wise it would not be a whole, and i did try to get rid of any lines that were not needed, but i may have missed some.

Hi Seb
I have downloaded the file and examined it carefully.
The model is definitely a lot better than your first model.
An easy way to get rid of lines on the engine would be to make a tube, push a whole through it, select the one end and scale this end down. This would give you a tube that is double walled, thinner in one end than the other and without unnecessary lines. The fan is also kinda simple to make without too many lines. Simply choose the inner ring in the thick end of the tube and press F to make an offset copy inside it.
Make the copied circle into a short tube by alt pushing it into the tube. Push the front end of it a bit into the tube too and you have a center for your fan..... Hmmmm.... Maybe it would be easier if I made a video on it.... I'll be back shortly...

Kind regards, Johnny

Nice design, Seb! Something like this would need a lot of flying space...maybe it could be incorporated into the *hint hint wink wink* possible Martian Plains? XD

maybe it should look more like a blimp and rase like a balloon rather then tilt, this way we dont get a whole disaster like: Phew we got away! (gains alt by tilting)  OMG I FELL OUT! (gets shot and louses quarry)

NOOOOOOOOOOO

anyway its cool but it might not work as a carrier.

great job though!

well i never said that it would gain alt by tilting and if it did i don't think you would fall out due to the new braking system that would be put in place for the Sea Monster, and please explain how this may or may not work as a carrier, some one did come up with the blimp idea but it did not turn out so well which is why i did not go for the blimp idea when i made it.

better yet it could be a big airship like in those movies:the-castle-in-the-sky and nausica-and-the-valley-of-the-wind!

(if you dont know what im talking about, I mean a giant metal thing thats not very aerodinamic  but has lots of propellors!)

IT WOULD BE PERFECT!

I still think it needs to be less aero dynamic and more "Fat". It's an air craft carrier, not a jet right?

Look, I am at my wits end with this thing (I have been for a while, but I just had the most wonderful idea!)

Just to tell you how big the thing needs to be, and what it really looks like on the inside, I am willing to download you model, program it a little (auto pilot), and put an old model of the buggy into it. That's right, I am willing to let you know ow your thing will look. It should be less flat, and more thick, like my original concept design. In fact, I am half tempted to actually create my own "sky monster" using my conceptual design..... Yeah, I think I will do that, I have tuns of spare time. In fact, I will even give the model to you, though it takes blender.

I would just like to point out to you... The sphere that you are calling a viewing area? Yeah... first of all, it is a part of the main mesh, so Aubrey will (and this is assuming that he actually does accept the model), have issues with texturing it separately. You have placed it in such a way that I cannot select the whole thing, unless I do it one vertex at a time, and put it in a separate mesh to be textured. Also, it is infinitely thin, and has only ONE side, so either anything that touches it's edge will be sucked in, or will be sucked out.

Just letting you know, so that when you enter it, and your view deck is just a large sphere, not transparent, then sucks you clean out, you don't get mad.

Another FYI, Your model has numerous inverted faces, and because the mesh is most likely not symmetrical, I can't double-side everything. This means that many parts are see-through.

The entire lower floor, and ramp are inverted! Ok, look buddy, I can't get this to work, however I will show you one picture....

Ok, that is about the size you are wanting the whole thing to be (actually it is smaller), and the terrain in the background is about 4-2.5 times the size of freestyle.

Look, I hate to rain on your parade, but someone has to be the bad guy! And sadly, I am that someone.

Yes you cam make it smaller, but then it is like being in a mini thing, that ramp of yours? It would be about a fifth as wide as the ramp in the sea monster before this thing can actually be a decent size. I tried to warn you that it was too wide, and was going to become huge! It would take complete remodeling to fix this issue... Which as I see it, you have no choice anyway, there are too many bugs for me to fix, I was looking forwards actually to driving around in it, no matter how huge, I just see it as impractical.

Ok, Sebby, as ice cold as Clubby is, he does have some points. The fact that there is no inner sphere in the viewing area is my fault, I kinda forgot about that and never mentioned anything of the sort to Seb. The fact that the faces are reversed is exactly the same as how it was on the Sea Monster. It is quite large, I already made Seb aware of the scale between the Buggy and Sky Monster. Heh, and the fact that you are making a Sea Monster model because you have TONS of free time is funny to me, Clubby. I get the "Too Busy" treatment very often from you.

It looks great.  Maybe it could replace the sea monster.  It could start out whare the current Sea Monster starts out and you could drive on in any vehicle.  You could take control of it and drive it accross the lava and then take off and fly it like an airplane.  It would have its own power and some kind of variable thrust control.  (maybe the + and - buttons).  It would have 2 levels like the sea monster and would be able to launch vehicles from its hangar bay.  Maybe it could slow down to let friendly vehicles on and the vehicles already inside could use their lasers to make sure no enemies get in.  Maybe if an enemy DID manae to somehow pass the hangar defenses, it could procede up a ramp to the cockpit and take control from the current pilot.  The Sky Monster would not be very manuverable, but it would be fast.

Let me know what you think.

umm this is not to replace the Sea Monster and if you read above Fly Clubs cold comments you will see that it will be at the top of the volcano in the freestyle level

ok just look at the top of the post and look at the bit that joins the engine to the body just before the two green ramps and you will see that i don't need to change it as it is long enough and it goes up at an angle so that would also slow you down

I think that the other sky monster on the right would be better (roomier, lower poly count).

Just round the joints out a bit id say.
