I figured out how to export sketchup to unity for all of you beginner game designers!

I have figured out how to export google sketchup to Unity! That means you can combine the painfully easy to use characteristics of sketchup with the unity program, to create games. Although, some meshes may have holes or discolored areas (depending on how well they are made), but this one turned out 100% perfecto:

So, If anyone wants their file to be unity capable, just send it to me!
This is exciting news for me.

FIRST:

Take your sketchup file. it MUST BE A SKETCHUP 6 FILE!!!

SECOND:

Export it to Google Earth 4 format.

THIRD:

Find the kmz file you exported, and change the file extension from .kmz to .zip.

FOURTH:

unpack the zip file.

FIFTH:

Take the models and images folder, and drag them directly into the unity project box.

Export to Google Earth 4 (.kmz) MAKE SURE IT IS GOOGLE EARTH 4! Then, change the file extension from .kmz to .zip. In the folder that you decompressed, you will have a models folder and maybe a textures folder. If you color a model with only sketchup solid colors, you can turn them into shaders in unity, like the reflective buggy material. when you have the "models" folder, You can rename it and drag it directly into the assets box in unity. It will then load in there. open the folder in unity and drag the model file out onto the screen. Then you will have your model in unity.

yes, but provide a link that WORKS please. If you want to drive the vehicle, then hand it over to FC so he can program it.

So... with the solid colors and shaders making the reflective mars explorer look, can you do it with translucent materials?

You said in your post that we needed a Google sketchup 6 file. Does this mean that our sketchup version has to be version 6.something? I am currently running a Google sketchup 7, so what do I do?

What if I already did my stuff in Sketchup 7? When I downloaded some version of Sketchup 6 it said that it wasn't compatible with the stuff I already made. :(

You should go "Save as" then there should be an option to save as a Sketchup 6 file instead of 7

Then when you open it, right click, or control click, and "open as" a Sketchup 6 file.

Then you can export.

Then, if you want your 7 models on 6, upload it to teh 3D warehouse and download the 6 version.

Sausagesauce...

HOLY FRICKING GAWD I SAID FRICKING SKETCHUP SIX

6 SKETCHUP

6

SIX

SIXS

SIIIIIX.

However, if you save your sketchup 7 file as a sketchup 6 file and export that file from sketchup six, it sometimes works.

Yes this has happened to me before too. I have found one possible solution. This might work. This is what happened to me. Two Sided faces and edges were unchecked by default and therefore nothing showed up.
