Well, it has come time to start a new project.

After the jet, I have not made a project NEARLY as big as that. It's time for a new project, and I'm gonna start it the right way.

So, here is the new design. It is a snowmobile, only available on snow covered maps. I will be making some of those, and I encourage anyone out there to make snow maps as well. So, the snowmobile looks sort of like a normal snowmobile, except the canopy is different. It's completely sealed.

Here are some little renders I did in unity:

Updates***: I have added treads to the front instead of skis so the snowmobile can drive on solid ground if it absolutely has to. Air scoops have been added and silver trim along the body has been added, too. The front suspension setup has been changed a bit to allow the treads to turn. Minor changes to the rear tread wheels have been added.

Please give styling tips and help me develop this vehicle!
Please, you are more than welcome to give constructive criticism, and styling ideas.

Thanks for takin' a look!

You can explore the Snowmobile here:
Not you must have an intel machine to run this application!

Also:
PLEASE PLEASE do NOT download it more that once, it will flood the server with traffic!!

I notice that no one seems interested at all whatsoever about my vehicle project. I you want, I will hide it :P

Then disable it in server prefs.  Some of us think that choice is good, and this might open up new maps.

Why don't you try working on some smaller transport systems for the sea or air that are faster than the Sea and Sky Monsters, smaller than them, and a couple of them can fit onto a Sea or Sky Monster?  To be more descriptive, a smaller ship that's docked on the Monsters that transport the people into the area of battle.

to me, a ground monster sounds more like it would resemble the ten-wheeled-clone-tank-thing from star wars ep. III.

also, maybe you could try scripting for a new game mode?

New ideas? Well, I had this one back when you were making the MarsTruck. How about an "exosuit" for the buggy? You could just drive the buggy into it and instantly take control of it! It be just like the regular buggy(maybe not the wings though), except that it would be 5x larger and be GTR's model.

This is a nice post for discussion, but I think we should finalize the original ideas first.

This pic is from the "Future" page:

It's shiny!
Let's see:

SUBMARINE= Already modeled, but maybe we can try another?

SEA MONSTER= Also modeled, we can wait for it's debut.

JET= DUUUH!

CYCLE= The Cycle was modeled by Clubbie, but maybe a redesign is in order.....

However, these two vehicles should warrant SPECIAL attention.....

ROBOT= Currently not attempted by anybody. However, THIS vehicle is what I want to see next. We've tossed various ideas around, like it having spider legs, and the ability to shoot vehicle-ensnaring webs that it could walk on. I'm thinking maybe something like that giant robot in the Incredibles, an orb with legs sticking out.

SWARM= Still as controversial as the Robot, but an interesting idea. This would probably be the hardest vehicle to design, program, and implement, so it would take some skill. However, it would be one of the most amazing vehicles on Mars if it was completed.

....I think before we start creating more ideas, we should finish our previous ideas first. The Jet was only the first step in accomplishing what the very first players envisioned. Now, most of them are gone. But, I think that before we add our OWN style to Mars, we should honor their ideas first. Whether that means implementing them, or throwing them into the trash bin. We should finish what we started.

If you want a vehicle that would have few flaws, and for it to be a "People's Vehicle", maybe you should try the Swarm. It's up to you.

I agree with aviator, we should try and get some in-game objects now so we can advance the types of gameplay there is.  All of these new bots aren't going to be much fun until we give them a purpose to use.  I mean, what's the fun of incapacitating (not beheading, mind you) people and rendering them unable to do anything when all you can do is shoot quarry, really?

Yes, I know that too.
I think it might be because I pushed the development of the jet so hard. I wanted design tips, and I just kept going on the thing. And with the file conversion, I got right on it, big huge thanks to supercheese, and then I sent it to Aubrey with a few pm's to follow that about the performance. I just tried really hard, I guess, I did alot.

OH btw:

I am making a snowmobile for mars, and maybe a snow map!!!

I like the vehicle design. It is very modern and looks what we would have on mars.
I know how capable the community is of creating snow maps.
But would it just have the same characteristics as a regular snowmobile?

Couldn't it run on the crystal build, too, for block worlds? Not for looks, but as far as i know, i think crystal is smooth.

All in all, good. I think you may have to explain questions in the future I cannot question right now because I don't know the future.

I can fix it. In the front TREADS are the housings, or what the rubbery treads spin on. It is just covered with a metal plate which is formed around the parts that would be inside to help the treads move (the circle bulges). Are you saying the body bulges too much on the front?

You put too much detail into your models, if you want a video game-worthy mesh, you need to take it down ten levels.

Maybe it could just be a new vehicle!

I mean think about it, it's all treaded, it could be the greatest all terrain vehicle on mars!

It could go through snow and ice environments very well, it could climb well and go fast, it could jump very well, and maybe the treads could retract up into the body to become a boat of some kind! What do you think of that?

I dealt with that, FC. The spring cross section is actually a pentagon, 5 sided, and each curl of the spiral only contains 5 segments.

It's pretty simple, the thing that might be throwing you off is the shaders... I can get  poly count, one minute...

THe point is, that it's way too detailed for many computers.

You must concentrate on the overall shape, not things like springs and such. Such fine details are not needed, and should be removed.

I removed the shocks and I am cleaning up some stuff.

I did a face and edge count, it face count is 3114 and edge count is 7545.

It loads in unity just fine, it's certainly not laggy, but that may not be for other people.

Either way, I am making a simple game where you can walk around it, so see if it lags you when  I release it.

OK, this may seem against the common agreement, but this is (insert expletive of choice here) AWESOME! this thing looks great, and in my opinion the more the merrier, be it vehicles, terrains, or game modes.(capture-the-flag 4 the win!)

Lol DVO.

Well, it won't at all FC.

Not if I keep thinking that it will never make it.
The difference here is the confidence I have in this thing. I think it would be great for my snow map.
(Only on my snow map)

epic epic epic epic epic epic epic! dont give up hope! it will become the DEVASTATOR of other vehicles!

a cool map for it would be a REALLY long downhill slope, where there would be steep drops off each side, and in random places there would be forcefields and bot turrets that shoot lazors! you could disable the forcefield with your lasers, and maybe even the bots too, and at the end would be the biggest jump ever! as you fly to the safety of the base!

/me hopes for it

Hey guys, there will be some small, roomy huts placed about the map.

It should be very cozy inside!

love how it looks maan, only thing I'm worried about it how it would perform,
not sure whether this has been said yet, but, i myself can imagine it having a buggy without wings kinda feel, or a hover with the hover.. and i mean, is there any point in having that?

love the design tho, i was thinking the other day in have a vehicle that can climb walls, and also jump from wall to wall, was intrigued with Krunchers spider, but i was thinking something more vehicle type

something that never leaves the ground, or is never stopped by any object like an approaching wall
if you could think and design something that could do that i'd be a happy bunny to see how that would turn out :)

It takes time?

Honestly, GTR was very fortunate to have his jet implemented so early after completion.

The hovercraft and sea monster both took quite a while to make it into the game. And the sea monster is yet to reach even the ability to move. I'm not leaving out seb's sky monster, i just dont remember how long it took to be implemented.
