just got to fix the engines, and make the bottom level, then it should be done! :)

OH NOES IM NOT SURE IF THIS POST CAN FACE ANOTHER UPDATE, OH WELL HERE GOES: like i said at the bottom of the post where there is a link to the old Sky King post for those that do not know what it is, i have now resized it to more near size of what i would like it to be if it was put in the game. as well as this the buggy bar has been refurbished, and the ramps at the back have been given a new lease of life, and it is not possible to exit the ship on to the outside, when i am done with the second level i will start to post some pictures of the inside to show you what it is like....... to the heck with it here is a picture of the new Buggy Bar, and that black patch on the deck is where you exit to the outside, one on each side of the Sky King
 
in this picture you will see the conference room, the two small blue patch's are the other two rooms on the second level, pictures of them may be shown, or not depends on if i want to show them to you, or let you find out what they are like, if it gets put in to the game, or i may show them anyway
 
and here is the ramps
* that speck at the top is the Mars 4x4 racer, not the F1 one*

Why not make paths or breaks in the walls where tanks and such can slide through?  Otherwise, love the idea, keep on working it!

there are paths in the walls, there are three gaps so in order to go to each level and you can get in to some of the buildings , and since i do not know how big the tanks are i am not sure they can fit, as i do not know how to test the world as of yet

umm if an correct by judging from the freestyle map Aubrey gives us in one of the mars packages the outer walls are each about 20 alt high from top to bottom of the wall, apart from where it is a bit bigger, the ruins that have a lot of rooms joined together are around 10 to 15 alt high form to to bottom of them the taller ones are the only exception to this as right now i do not remember how high they are, but yea you should be able to climb the smaller walls, i think

Hey seb, the map looks great. Just wanted to tell you you can't make over hangs in he Unity terrain engine. Only adding height and decreasing it.

It would be, but it would be laggy when it came to joining faces... thats why I use blender

i will try to get it done as soon as possible, only thing it that painting the ruins and the land around takes time, as i have to use a small sized paintbrush in order not to mess it up,

no it shouldn't be to hard to get out, as i made sure you could get in and out of, as if you look in the first picture there is a blue post, at the top of a hill, if you are driving this is where you would enter/exit from

well i asked Aubrey if he could consider it being put in to the game, the net time i will update this will possibly be when there is a link for you to play on, like a test, just as soon as i find out how to do that

The detail in this is really stunning. I'd love to play on it! One question though, to me the walls of the ruins look almost pinkish. Could the color be made more gray? I know that's a lot to ask, 'cause it must have taken forever to paint that perfectly and it doesn't have anything to do with actual gameplay , but it does sort of bother me in this color. I hopee I can play on there some day!

yes they do look pink, but that is not the colour, this is the colour of the walls
it is a mixture of colours, on filterforge it in under Alien metal, and well mars is red, so i used this texture i used for the walls 
 
and this is the other texture for the ruins

i got's another idea for a world, all i can say it i hope you like steep sided walls, as the idea i am going to do next, is one that was suggested here on the site some time ago, keep a look out for the pictures of the world

Watch this space here, as soon(tomorrow for me) there will be pictures of two other ideas i got, one is done the other i am yet to finnish
 
 
there will be pictures here soon, so watch out for them, all i can say is i hope you don't mind steep, tall(around 600 in height on unity) sides
 
i told you to watch this space, cause here are some pictures for all those that watched this space
 
my mars canyon's so far
because the walls as around as high as you can possibly make on unity, you can't really see in to the inside with these for pictures so here is another picture
keep watching this space as there may be more pictures to come of this world and another one which it yet to come

Seb, can some of the walls be higher than others on the canyon map? This looks like an extremely challenging place to play! I predict it will be unpopular with noobs as it will require effort. :)

well i can do that, i can also make them just a tad taller as well
 
EDIT: also the canyon floor's are at different levels, the wider the canyon is the deeper it goes down, like the main big is under 114 in height in unity on average, and the most narrow is on average just over 200 in height above the ground(the height is not in alt, but the height reading on unity

the map looks sweet!  The F1 Mars Racer?  2 things.
 
1.  Make the rear wing extend to at least the outer rim of the rear tires.  Larger wing=more downforce.
 
2. Will it flip if your turning at high speed?

A racing thingy, like in those races...what was it...
Formula 1?
 
People will probably keep it up nice and close to the buggy. I think it looks astounding.
 
Astounding because I can't even draw the WHEELS to the car on sketchup.
Astounding because it is a spitting image of the Formula 1,

Can't wait to see the ruins, either! I wanna get the buggy and go rouge (NOT to be confused by the new book 'Going Rouge', by Sarah Palin)
 
Then I wanna get the jet and crash everywhere it will be fun.

I bet the race car could go to Dvo's park.
Not sure about PointyBagel's park thing.
 
Now comes the questions.
-How fast could it go?
-Would it have any abilities? (boost, thrust, etc.)
-Would it need a booster to get out of mountains or stuck in caves?
-Could it have a little scope next to the driver's window?
 
I wonder if soon, there will be several pages of worlds on marsxplr during the game to choose!
That would be intense, to choose out of that.
It would. 
Maybe make me a bit too excited and a tad claustrophobic, too.

About the mars canyons. I have one important point. The walls, although they look amazing in your pictures are WAY too high. I've messed around a bit in the unity editor, and I figured out how to play on my maps. The first one that i made was about that high, with walls past the maximum height so that they were flat on the top. Even half that height it took me about ten minutes to fly to the top, and I never even managed yo get on.

i did the walls high in the canyons as the canyon on mars is very deep so i did the same here on the map,

yes i know General, i did this cause i was bored, not because we need it(if it gets put in then great)as at the time i did this, i did it as i don't see that many people on mars around after 7 pm for me due to the time zone difference, plus it was fun doing it

so it blends more,

The car is something we know is too much like a buggy to succeed, but it's one of those things that's so....so....so nearly perfect that we can't really let it go, exactly.
 
Well, not for me, anyways.
 
I bet it could be implemented in a racetrack specially designed for it.
 
Like a single track, only one place to put it so it'll be exciting because there's only one track.
 
But then people will want a new track and some will want to keep it so there are a lot of new ones and a few are implemented and more places for the racecar, etc.

but the thing is after that mars would turn into more of a racing game than a stratagic game!

I don't know... somehow, the fog makes it a little creepier, perfect for hide and seek.  My suggestion is to be able to turn t off, but otherwise keep it on.  AMAZING MAP!

it still could be strategic, as long as it is only available in like a few worlds, 2 or so, as then it would be limited two only those places, plus it would be very strategic when trying to shoot behind as it has a very limited view out the back

I don't think it's fog. What bothered me was how extremely dark it was, not the limits of view. Seb, if you can turn up the brightness or somehow add more spots to give off light it would be great. Once again, it's an awesome world. I just had trouble getting around 'cause I couldn't see.

i did extend the rear wing, but only to the inner edge of the rear wheels, as otherwise it would be too long, and the wheels would hit it

I absolutely and fully enjoy your world,
I could waste hours just flying and exploring there,
and I can see great Dogfights and games in general happening there as well.
 
As for the Racer,
I love that as well, as per my earlier suggestion,
If you take the curve out of the nose neck just a little, it'll look much more realistic.

now down to business, on my canyons, map i am thinking of putting some sketch up stuff on it, so far i got three ideas, and i want to know if you would like to see them put in to place
 
1) a base like building, from Picard's stories
 
2) a mars lounge at the top of one of the cliffs, with maybe some gaps in the floor, so if you aren't careful you might end up falling down 600 alt or so
 
3) a launch pad, for any space vehicles that are yet to come
 
tell me what you think, and or if you have any ideas of your own list them as well
 
 
oh yea i almost forgot, i can some plans for the canyons ;)
you will just have to wait and see

It is an awesome world, I would rate it second out of all the worlds I have ever seen (Freestyle is just too clasic and epic to lower its rank).  One suggestion though, I kept getting stuck in these little holes when in the mountain section and the outside of the maze section.  They are a big problem.  In the editor, I keep having to reload the page and in the actual game, I would have to keep resetting, which would be annoying.

i do see your problem, but i have been all over the map with the buggy, and so far i have yet to find a hole i couldn't get out of, including all the 5 volcano cones, which are deep and steep sided, maybe i should put out a warning about it
 
 
 
oh well at least it tells me, that you might have to play with the settings a bit, or improve one your driving skill ;)
 
you shouldn't have to reset in my map unless you fall in to the middle of the two large towers, as i don't think any one will be to get out of those, unless they are in a jet

ok, i have gone and done a map, just for racing(well it was thought up to be just for racing), there are 5 courses on this one map, all over lap each other, as of so far, i have only done the basic shape, so all the courses overlap each other, i will make sings on sketch up, to show the way around, but to try and give you an idea, of the courses i have painted them different colours for now,
 
course number 1)
 this will be the high speed one so it will be left flat, so you can keep the speed up, number's 2 to 4 will all be off-road  ones, and number 5 which is the most outer one, will also be flat, but with some bumps, now and again to throw you off it, mostly near the edge's where there is nothing but cliffs on both sides ;)
 
numbers 2-4 will range for easy to really hard
 
there will also be a pit stop, area, where, i shall not show you yet, there will also be a bridge to get to course 5, a starting area + more
 
if you notice all the mountain's are really high, which will be good for jet racing as well, when i get this map done i will try to push for the mars racer to be put in, for the speed racing, and i would like this map to only have four options of vehicles to chose from, the buggy, the jet, the mars racer, and the first person to come up with a good of road vehicle of the off road sections, which WILL BE HARD, AND ARE NOT TO BE TAKEN LIGHTLY, so unless you are skilled in the arts of driving, don't bother to show up here, as it is not for those who do not know how to drive on extreme off road courses   
 
 
this also goes for my mars canyon,s map, it will also involve the skill of hard off road driving ;)

I'd still like to see some varied hight on the canyon map's walls.
 
I have seen so many people cut corners when racing at Lava Racer, I would consider blocking shortcuts or creating obstacles in the shortcuts for the race track map.

oh sorry, i was meant to update the pictures of the canyon map, as the walls are kind of still the same height, but i made new levels, which have shorter walls, but yes i can still do that
 
 
i was thinking, of maybe gates the open and shut, so like you have to chose the course you are doing, so you can only follow that course, and none of the others

it may look a mess to you, but i know what is what, and i shall attempt to stick several bridges spanning the gaps in-between the canyons so you can explore around them and all the different levels of them which i will start to do the sketch up work on them, if you have any bridge ideas feel free to post them here if you want to let me know about your ideas
 
i know where the stuff will be placed those areas i am not showing you yet ;) so you will have to wait and see, i also plan to have some of the bridges at angles in order to get to the different levels, and maybe some crack here and there, if i get around to that

So do I. I think the bridges are a great idea, but I also agree with what Dude says. There should be something like a plain, not totally flat, but somewhere that isn't all those canyons and mountains. When I played the map, it was great, except it was a bit hard to get 'round in. But, other than that, this map is DA BOMB!

Oh, well in that case, it still looks awesome. I think they are both cool. A problem though: Try to make the body more flowing. It looks flat in some spots. Maybe make the back of the F1 ish car taper up into the spoiler, and maybe have the front come down a little more. Also, maybe make the suspension more modern looking. As you can see by this photo, the suspension does not consist of an axel for each wheel set. The front axel kind of sticks out a little, so maybe you could modernize the suspension? 
 
Overall, it is great.

ok i will see what i can do about that, also at the moment the F1 style car it siting up higher as when i made it, it looked too low to the ground so i raised it a fair bit

For the interior of the sky king: Make EVErYTHING as SIMPLE as possibly. Even the hull. You might even want to rework the hull. To simplify things, open the "entitiy info" box. (Window/entity info) So whatever you select, it gives you characteristics. So, or example, if you are making a pole, you can select the circle before you extrude it, and change the segments from 24 to 5 or 6. This greatly reduces lag on some people's computers.

well it now looks like i will have to re-work it again, i have cut off 5MB of it so far, as it was at 10MB before, it is now down to 5MB, and i will see if i can cut even more off that
 
i think it is the engines that i will have to redo, as i think they are taking up a lot of file space, well considering how much stuff will be on the inside, and the fact that there are three main levels, i think so far i have kept it down quite a lot, as so far it is only twice the file size as the Sky Monster which was 2.5MB

when it will come out, i don't know but it sounds like it will be very soon, after the pm Aubrey sent me yesterday,
 
and i can't promise anything about the mars racer coming out, i will tell you if it will though, just got to put it in to blender first

i have hidden it to stop it being bammed up to the top, as it is no longer needed, as i will soon post pictures on this one, and maybe the link to get to it, for now i have redone the top level of it, and the ramps at the back leading to the different levels, + a never before seen area, as i have made it so you can now explore the outside of it, i am yet to make it possible for you to go to the different outside levels as that will come soon

ok i am trying to keep the file size down as much as i can, but so far it was grown from 5.0 Mb which was just the shell of it, with no inside work done, but so far as i have been adding stuff, to it it has gone to 6.6MB, and thats with keeping every thing simple, but i think the file will go down as soon as i re do the engines, but that could possibly only take off 1MB max, but just before i do any more work on it i am going to try and cut as much file weight of it as possible

well the length of each post depends on how many comments there are on the post,
 
but for some reason this post as gotten thinner at the bottom of it
 
*conference room has now been updated, i was going to have text on the screen in it, but when i did that, the one of the text's i put on took up 8.4MB so i scraped the text idea until i can make the Sky King take up less file room, which i will do be again re working the buggy bar, and the other ares of the top deck, and re do the ramps again, they will still look the same, but they should take up less room when i am done with them *

actually, on the contrary, I prefer to keep one idea in one post. For example, the map pack... If I had that and maybe the jet, the buzzer, and the buggy in one post, it just gets confusing. I like to be as clear as possible.

 i am trying to keep things as simple as i can in the Sky King, but it all adds you at the end of the day, to date, all the inside work, and the shell of the Sky King takes up 9.6MB, i am going to try shave off 1MB with new engines, but at the end of the day, the more i add to the inside the bigger the file gets a little bit bigger for every new room, at least i only have 3 rooms left, and will be keeping those down as much as i can

sure will do so, it will be the latest one, you will notice that i have taken off one of the engines, and i am redoing it, that one engine, was about 1/2 a MB
 
 
 
well because i shall be sailing tomorrow as well(was out today as well) the work on the bottom level, will not be done, until monday(for me)or by friday as i shall be also sailing on the three days in-between those days, and not much work will get done , and if you haven't finished with it by then i shall send you the finished one

G-Man I would almost make a new thread with this if you really intend to go with it.  I suggest that you try it.  It can't really hurt.  But If you do I would have to say that the part that is connecting the wheel with the body is WAY to thin.  IT needs to be much thicker.  Also make it a bit less bulky.  I want also a bit of suspention.
