My first Sketchup Creation.

The Jet Boat:
My first skethup design, woohoo.
Anyway, I was looking around, and this concept was never addressed, so here it is.
I tried to make it look as "marsy as possible, hence the coloring.

How it works:  most boats, as you probably know, are powered by propellers, but not this one, this one is powered by a jet engine.  The basic idea behind a jet engine in an airplane  is the same as the idea behind a propeller, however, it uses a compressor, allowing the air to be expelled out the back at a much faster spees than is possible with a propeller.  You can clearly see the compessor in this design, however, it is quite obvious that there is no turbine.  I thought about this for a long time, and decided that a turbine would not be the best way to propell a boat, so I tried a giant propeller with a compressor, but I couldn't get it to work.
This design is similar to an air jet, except instead of expelling air out the back, it does water/lava.
this design allows for maximum control, as it is both thrust vectored, and has a rudder (to come)
Please provide criticism and comments, without them, 2 things would happen, I will never get better a sketchup, and this design will never get better.

Hmm, it needs some work, but I think you have a fair concept here. Try and get some more expert input than me. ;)

To tell you the truth, I honestly do not know how, I might have to make it a Unity file and finish it there.
Never nade a vehicle in unity either though...

lol, yes no one did address  the Jet Boat on the site, me and MacDane did have a talk about it and came up with an idea for it

are you sure you are not trying to make what is called a water jet? like the ones found on jet-skis?

the idea me and MacDane came up with was a catamaran that raised up on hydrofoils when it picked up speed, he even gave me an idea of how it should look like

i haven't got on to making it yet due to the Sky King?

and as Fai said contact him or me for help!

it is a water jet, but it uses a compression system similar to that of an air jet.

1. Make the cockpit bigger.
2. Make it to a trimaran.
3. Make it longer and more speedy but no Viking boat mor like a boat that could also dive and has no flat deck.
4. Ad big air inhale hole on the side
5. Ad the turbines in parralelogramm form and integrated in the outer shell

Well would this just be a surface skimming veichle or more of a coast guard resucue ship?  Because if it was a rescue ship you would have a flat top.  If not more of a water skimmer for speed I would do rounded edges at the back and litteral wings and something to keep it down on the water because if it goes overally fast it might literally fly for a couple seconds and then crash.  It's happened in real life.  Just not with a veichle like that.  ;)

You should make it so the turbine doesn't just jut out of the bottom.  I think you should make it so the bottom of the hull should be that of a Planing hull, so it looks a bit more like a boat.

Nice idea, but liquids cannot be compressed so your compression chamber is useless. Maybe you could use the ram jet idea so it doesn't have to have a turbine, there could be an intake at the top and when the boat made it to certain speeds the air would be forced into the turbine and compressed (the faster you were going the better the ramming would work), then mixed with some fuel and ignited and shot out under water. At certain speeds it wold start to get quite a bit of lift out of the water too. The efficiency of the vehicle world be very low at low speeds so there could be a retractable propeller to get it started.

Well, I could just make a SCRAMjet and eliminate both the turbine AND the compressor. :)

There are several methods you could use to get the follow me tool to behave well.

The basic mode is to just draw a shape and pull it along an edge.
If you want it to be more accurate, try to select the edge before you choose the follow me tool and then click on the shape you want to follow that edge.

You can also select a surface, and then apply the follow me tool on a shape that will follow the edges of the entire surface.

For complex models, this can become tricky but I find that dividing your models into components can make this a lot easier.

Try to look at the sketchupvideo channel on youtube for a video on the subject.

Though even with a SCRAMjet you would need the intake to be above the surface of the lava, because like I said before, liquids cannot be compressed, and that is the idea behind RAM jets, SCRAM jets and normal jet engines. And if you used a SCRAM jet you would need to get the boat up to hypersonic speeds before the SCRAM jet world work (that's pretty dam fast for a boat). Maybe you could use a RAM/SCRAM hybrid so it could have a lower minimum functional mach number. You could also maybe have a booster rocket to help get it up to speed although this would only work once(unless you had multiple rockets) the only other problem I see is that traveling at hypersonic speed at our current worlds(and on lava) would make it so you would pass the whole world in a matter of seconds.

Not to spoil your fun here Bagles however, Aubrey says in "Submit" to do a search before posting something, Now we all know that rarely happens but I searched "jet" and came up with the following:

Hmm, the above link seems a treasure trove for a mod to do some janitorial work, lol. I'll leave (madgamer's) zillion boat posts up for you to view.....

Now, I'm not screaming "hide this", I'm saying this is what's already out there to draw upon.
Also, here are Aubrey's words below:

Submarine:
  • Already modeled by Olim, this incredible new vehicle has futuristic styling, thrust vectored lavajet propulsion, and a planing hull - allowing it to function as a high performance jet boat as well as a sub

No I don't mean to resolve your post at all. I linked another boat post simply for reference. I hid some of madgamers updates and resolved a couple.

But please read the last line of my above comment box okay? Aubrey states that Olim's sub will also function as a high speed jet boat. So keep working on this project if you want to. That can't be a bad thing.

i beleive me, and many other martians have mentioned this before, but i want to suggest once again the ideas of

A) water spawn points (or different spawn points in general)

B) vehicles like this only being available on maps with water (maybe)

yes, but with my model, you dont need extra spawn points, as it can drive normally on land... as it has wheels...
