World Exported By Achilles
Submitted By PR on 10/05/22
Mars Explorer, PR, Feature Requests, New Worlds, Foothills, Unity, MEx

Update:
I'm excited to announce that I have finally got a fully working code to play Foothills on Mars, thanks to Achilles! Other than that, I may be requesting an export of Everest some time soon.

Have fun! http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4704910/Foothills/Whirld.utw

Update:

Although Achilles has attempted to export Foothills for me, it was not entirely successful due to a bad unitypackage from me. Now that school has started there's no telling when he might be able to try again, so I am considering getting the Pro demo, if anyone would explain to me how to export. Although I don't have a mars link for you guys, I do have this new webplayer including my new world "Everest" in slot 2. If I do get the pro demo I will export this world as well, however I will otherwise not bother someone else with doing it for me. Hope you enjoy the new world, and see if you can drive the whole way up, there's at least two paths from the bottom.

Foothills
The idea behind this world was to have some mountains then design the ground around them, showing gradually smaller hills. It was originally much smaller, but has developed to be a medium size with more detail than the original foothills idea. It has been specially designed to allow virtually any kind of gameplay, and any kind of player. Newbies should be able to safely navigate through it without wings, but it should be good for dogfighting, stunting, and who knows what else. Please enjoy the live player while Aubrey considers my request for it to be implemented.

Praise for Foothills:

  • "GOOD JOB" - GCC_HCC_stoversrule
  • "Interesting world, I like it." -AlexNB
  • "Oddly, it feels like home. Like Freestyle 2. It feels like I've been on this map a thousand times even though I just saw it today. Good job." - GTR34
  • "It does feel like freestyle. Nice work..." - Geek377

  • "Good job!" - Gub
  • "I <3 This world. Period." - Applesky
  • "ME LIKEY! Its had some great improvements, I love it." - AlexNB again, after update
  • "i likes dis world!  unlike some of the really giant worlds, where eveyone is spread out and anti-social, dis world is small and snug and it bring everyone close togethor!" - cheezburger
  • "Quite nice! This looks like a joy to dogfight in, and yet also a good racing/driving/doing whatever-the-heck-you-want map. ;) Keep it up!" - Tigerstorm
  • "Awesome map, PR!" - Grae
  • "It's looking great!! I feel muuuch happier with my bigger landmass. XP" - Flyclub

  • "It looks great!! :D I can't wait to play it!" - Flyclub again, about final version
  • "Wow. Awesome." - Blam-Blam21 again, about final version
As you can see, it is a widely appreciated world with many different advantages. Now, without further ado, the webplayer.

Interesting world, I like it. You may want to scale it up though, because its scale makes it quite small. Maybe 2x the size would be good.

Although with this size of terrain I cannot do much more, I would welcome any suggestions for painting the terrain. It is looking a little bare, and I have yet to use the grass texture. Also, do you guys think that I should move the crater up to get rid of the water in it or even completely flatten it?

I can't make it have more blank area without adding another terrain, and that tends to be advised against. Do you think that I have anything in my world which could be replaced with that?

Some people have said that adding a second world makes it run better. I just happened to choose the sky king, because I thought that its absence of terrain would take less space.

Sorry about that! There was a seemingly minor, but apparantly major bug in SmartEmbed, that I had decided not to fix, as at the time, I saw no way to! :P

It's all fixed now, so you embed should be working.

Still doesn't work for me. It's probably just my internet. The loading bar comes up but does nothing.

Yep, this time it's your internet, but there WAS a problem.

Solutions:
The Unity Web Player has as habit of showing a frozen loading bar until it's about 25% done. If you have slower internet, it may take time to get to the 25% mark. Try waiting five minutes or so.

Your browser may have cached the older version of SmartEmbed. Click here, and keep refreshing until you see a "SmartEmbed innitiater" up at the top. Then, try loading the web player again.

It may be a problem with SmartEmbed browser compatibility. It would be VERY helpful if I knew your browser, so-as to diagnose the problem.

As it stands now, I certainly think it's drivable, but I did like it much better when it was more flat.

Your mountains are awesome, but players are just going to see them as obstacles. You need to keep mountains reserved for the very edge of the world. Keeping them in the middle in a world of this size, is not a good idea.

Also, multiple terrains are actually ok, it's just when players try to line them up, bad things happen. If you want to make the world bigger, put a much large terrain (Twice the size of the first), and then raise up only half of that terrain to form a "Half-moon", around any area near the terrain. It will just look like river, or a deep trench, and you can continue your world in the new terrain.

This is a real treat PR, simple, yet complex. I love the new island too, and I think it'd look best following the texturing from the original island. The very edge of the cliffs could (IMO) perform best smoothed out a little so as to be ''user-friendly.'' Other than that, very nice.

Hey, do any of you have a better placement idea for the spawn point? Where it is now looks cool, but as I now realize is terrible for newbies who can't fly. As of now, I can't think where it should be moved.

HE probably sees the dirt texturing under the lava, which makes the bigger island pop up against the ocean bottom. It would be wise to make that area lavarock.

I couldn't help but notice that the larger Island is a much larger terrain than the smaller one. I was wondering if there is a way to "attach" two or more terrains to each other so that they can both be equally raised and lowered simultaneously. Either that, or get a terrain with a much larger base. Also, where did you get the texture for the volcanic rock stuff?
