Bonus: sketchy future roadmap included :)

Mars Explorer, admin, Official

Greetings everyone;

As has been all too apparent, I have been offline for a couple of weeks. MarsXPLR has slowed down a bit, but it's still going strong!

I am in the process of converting a 1945 Beck Mainliner into my future home, as well as organizing various other aspects of my life. The bus is nearing a functional state, and as soon as it's interior is complete I will be building a dream computer and then get to work on Syn3h in earnest. MarsXPLR is back online after a bit of excitement this morning, and my position on Unity 3's beta team has been an incredibly exciting opportunity to test out some of the massive rendering and networking improvements it offers that will be incorporated by Syn3h.

I have been having lots of fun with my new iPhone 4, and just configured an app known as PixelPipe to allow me to push photos and video captured on it directly to Picasa - Google's photo hosting service. My computer will be headed back into temporary storage after this post, but you are welcome to follow along with the construction progress via my Picasa account:

If you need to contact me, please use my admin@theati.net email address directly as it's much more fun replying to emails on an iPhone than logging into PlexPedia and composing a message for each reply :)

Have a wonderful Summer!

Nice to (finally) have an update, Aubrey!

He's had updates. You just don't know where to look :P

Good luck with the bus!

*Btw, I did not experience the downtime with the site that everyone else apparently did. I'm not sure why, but I was still able to find new content that was being added, as well as everything else.

Niether did I.

And I meant on Mars; I know about where to find updates.

Anyways....

Your computer's internal DNS cache didn't refresh itself in the time period that was necessary in order to retrieve the parking site's IP. Had you restarted, you would have experienced the issue :)

Or maybe it was just the internal gremlins in my computer and local network have turned good and allowed me greater access to the Internet than those with evil gremlins. ;)

I like App's better, but Aubrey's is more factual.

Thanks for the explanation.

Thanks for the update and the fix for Marsxplr. Aubrey I would like to know this as well as many others. Do you have a rough estimate until Syn3h will come out?

Edit: Aubrey I still have the website down.

My guess is that Syn3h will greatly depend on Unity 3 for networking, so it would appear nothing will become final until after the release of Unity 3.

EDIT: Just as Mars was stored in mah computer's DNS cache, the ad might be stored in yours. Try restarting your browser or computer, and it should probably work then.

I don't have any hard dates to offer for Syn3h, but I honestly expect to see a beta release for some version of it within a month.

If MarsXPLR.com is still inaccessible from your computer, try refreshing the page a couple times - or if you are feeling technical - flushing your dns cache.

Aubrey- When it says "type dscacheutil - flushcache into your terminal" what does it mean bye the word "terminal" does it mean to type it into the HD? Or something else?

Posted 2010/07/19 - 18:46 GMT
Terminal as in the Terminal program. You can find it in your Utilities folder within the Applications folder on a Mac.

If you have a router, cable modem, etc., you might try unplugging that, and waiting about 30 sec, then plugging it back in. That and try to clear the cache in your browser as well, as I'm not sure the command clears the browser cache.

I am quite saddened to say, I am now another victim of the problem. I have tried clearing my DNS cache, restarting my computer, as well as restarting my router and DSL modem. I am still not able to load Marsxplr. I am still looking for work-around ways of getting on. Going directly by IP fails by bringing me to a default ATI network page, but it did that while I was still able to access the site. I have also cleared the cache of my browser.

EDIT: Trying to access a Cached version of the page though google also failed.

Mars is down due to some webhosting issues. If you actually took the time to read, you would have seen that Mars should be back up later today.

I'm really curious about your dream computer. Are you putting one together, or will it be something else? Are you going to go for a mac, or a PC?

Any word on asset bundling for Unity 3 indie?

Great news! I am having a surprise week-and-a-half visit from a long lost cousin, so I may have to bump the "month" preview date a bit :)

The Whirld Library will be an integral component of Syn3h. Although I have no official word from Unity yet on the Indy bundling issue, I am confident that I will be able to find an elegant solution.

Here's a short description of my new computer build, and here's a couple pictures.

Good luck with the Windows Build. If you still have troubles with it, I'd be willing to help anyway I can.

*Walks off mumbling about how stupid I was for going "mini" for my computer. Expensive, and slow. Expensive and slow. Expensive and slow. . . .*

"bump" which direction Aubrey? Oh well....

New problem is my computer is getting locked up by the Mars app. When I load a map, I get the announcement of "World successfully loaded" then I still have stars background with no progress indicated and the text window stays faded. My mouse moves but screen is frozen. Command option escape does nothing. I've restarted my Mac several times and checked for and login items hogging resources.

hi there! just a quick question-what' s Syn3h?
2 days - 6,410v
Posted 2010/09/02 - 5:46 GMT
Syn3h is what Mars is going to transform into in just a matter of time. So... its a new game, maintaining some of mars aspects, but on a slate with more room. The current version of mars is the last, and Syn3h will replace it.
